Manchester: Quick City Overview

City: Manchester
County: Manchester
Place: Quick City Overview

Although it was founded by the Roman Empire more than 2000 years ago, Manchester determined its identity during the english textile revolution of the 19th Century, in what was a radical change for the city with the construction of hundreds of factories and an exquisite repertoire of industrial architecture. Like London, it was intensely bombed by the germans and it fell into decay for several decades. However, as often happens in the urban evolution of many cities of the world,it completely reversed its course in the last 30 years, becoming the second most important city in England and a new pole of modern architecture within the United Kingdom.

Manchester: John Rylands Library

City: Manchester
County: Manchester
Place: John Rylands Library

The John Rylands Library is perhaps the most interestin place in Manchester. Made in pure neo-Gothic style, it is known for its Reading Room with its arches and red carpets. Its architectural imponence is also complemented by its hallways and rooms with very valuable collections, such as the Papyrus P52, an old fragment of the New Testament.

Manchester: Central Library

City: Manchester
County: Manchester
Place: Central Library

The Manchester Central Library is one of the great palaces of the city center, with a completely circular layout and a central glass dome that illuminates the gigantic Reading Room. Inspired in its design by the Roman Pantheon, it is now the second largest library in Great Britain.
