Phoenix, AZ (Downtown)

This is the final set of my pics from my trip to Arizona, all taken in downtown and around the capital. I actually found downtown much nicer than I expected though pretty quiet as far as people, granted it was a weekend.

My first sight of Phoenix from the airport

A shot from the freeway

The new Phoenix City Hall

My last shot is that of a rainy Phoenix, another unexpected event.

Nice shots. From the right angles downtown Phoenix looks somewhat urban. I have to ask though, where are the people? It looks eerily deserted.

These are some awesome pics! Nice work! I love how Phoenix has so many great historic buildings, a lot of them look so nice a clean too. There are a lot of cool modern buildings going up as well.

One of my favorites drives is the entire length of Central Ave. through downtown. Lots of nice architecture, palm trees, and clean streets. You can drive for a long time in downtown PHX and not see any litter (unlike most American cities).

^^^or people for that matter. The pics were awesome. While I am not a big Phoenix fan, I hope that Phoneix can become more dense and some pedestrian life.

Thanks for the series. A lot of 'funky' architecture there.

Wow I havent seen downtown quite that dead in a long time. Was it a Sunday or one of the cold/rainy days when you took these? Phoenix still has a long way to go in terms of urban vitality and pedestrian life but its come a long way in the past 5 years or so, these pics remind me of how things used to be rather than how they are most times these days.

Thanks for the comments!

Yah, the photos I took on the parking garage and at the capital were on a Saturday, the rest were on a Sunday. Every couple of blocks I would run into someone, but, overall, it was pretty quiet, though the people I did run into seemed friendly.

Nice photo set of downtown. I like how you contrasted the old with the new. I agree with hooverdam too, usually things are not that quiet downtown.

Wow, that was one of the most extensive tours of downtown Phoenix ever. I can think of a few areas you missed, but for the most part, you got most of the major stuff. Great pictures too! I like the plant/flower/tree life you captured as well as the older buildings.

Some of those shots look downright eerie. Without any cars or people in them, it looks like an abandoned movie set. The only thing missing are tumbleweeds blowing down the street. Some nice pics, though.

Nice tour, downtown Phoenix looks very clean. One of these days I'll visit the city other than just passing through.

Awesome work! I was in Phx around New Years... never made it downtown, though. I'll probably be back there for a couple months this summer, though (the best time of year to be there, of course ). Hopefully I'll have plenty of time to take pics then.

Nice pictures. Phoenix has some nice older buildings. The 60s-era buildings are actually pretty interesting as well.

Very nice city, didn't expect it to be as nice as it is. Looks very clean and very well planned.

Awesome job and very extensive. I must say that except for the Shearton all the new development in downtown Phoenix looks great.

Best photos of Phoenix I have seen. I have to be honest I did not have a favorable view of Phoenix before because of the climate, terrain, architecture, demographics, location, etc., but that has improved significantly. I absolutely love some of the older buildings there! Wow, had no idea! Also some cool, imposing buildings and a new, modern, clean appearence.

I only noticed two negative things: where are the people? Are there just too many retirees in Scottsdale to enjoy downtown? Also, the Sheraton hotel, I just don't know about that one. It's certainly different, but I think it's imposing on an unfavorable scale.

^^^^I agree with dkthsb that all of the new buildings look great except for the Sheraton, which looks...

^ Capsule F.

It you don't like Phoenix so much, why do you feel the need to comment? Acttually, you said pretty much the same thing in another thread about Phoenix, nearly word for word. Or maybe, exactly word for word. In my book, that is spamming/trolling. Therefore, that makes you a troll.

You do realize that there is a difference between constructive opinion and flaming right?

edit: IF I am reading your comment wrong, then my apology in advance.
