Curbed LA posted an link to an amazing set of pictures of LA Live taken by Scott Trimble, including some great bird's eye views of the foundation work for teh Ritz tower. Here's a link to his picture set. Some awesome stuff in there, vantage points we probably won't have another chance to see.

This is a huge project for LA and there is only like 1 post every 3 days. This was going to drop off the 1st page. Any updates?
They're in the beginning stages of the foundation phase, so pictures will be a bit boring for quite some time. It won't start rising out of the ground for about six months or so, so during that time the updates won't be as frequent, or as exciting. But never fear, we won't let this thread drop off into oblivion.

The crane blocking the view of the hotel pit on camera 2 has been removed. I wonder if they will be moving it a bit to the north for the construction of the theaters and meeting rooms.
In my opinion, the Tower is too far from the downtown skyline, having the "Transamerica Effect", so I'm not that crazy about its placement. Hopefully more towers will be planned around LAlive. Since we dont know the height, I assumed it'd be a little bit higher than the 777 tower.

Although, I do like the Tower itself
Across the street (Figueroa), LA Central is planned and its two towers have been increased from their original plan to 54 stories and 40 stories. Once these start construction, the Ritz won't appear to stand alone in the south skyline.
I saw one of the renderings of the Ritz, and it looks like there's a rectangular hole in the middle of the tower.....is it some form of outdoor restaurant?
I don’t think this question was answered, and I’m curious myself. See the rendering below does appear to have a terrace exposed to the outside in the middle of the tower. However, it does not appear in the models. Was that design element scrapped?
Wake up, sleepythread. Construction status from Saturday, August 25. Excavation is complete but not much else going on at the moment.
DowntownCharlieBrown, that exposed terrace appears to be gone. There's a full page ad in this month's Los Angeles Magazine with a great new nighttime rendering, and that terrace isn't included.

Bummer about the outdoor terrace being dropped from the design. Here is a portion of an article I found on the hospitalitynet.org website.
As the first Ritz-Carlton “all club” property in the United States, the hotel will feature a 3,400 square foot Club Lounge, which will also serve as the 23rd floor check-in area for guests. A small boardroom will be available adjacent to the lounge area, providing meeting space suitable for business meetings. Another unique feature of The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles will be a combined Lobby Lounge and restaurant on the 24th floor with windows offering panoramic views of the downtown and surrounding Southern California. An outdoor rooftop swimming pool and terrace will offer guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles a relaxing retreat from the city below
They must have envisioned the restaurant having an outdoor dinning area at one time. Indoors or out, the restaurant will have great views to the ocean on one side and South Park on the other.
I'll definitely be up there when it opens, camera in hand.

^ Yes, but the real news in that pic is the concrete drying at the bottom of the Ritz footprint.
