i think all those off-price retailers are horrible disasters anyway. Not a huge fan of needing to spend three hours to find one thing. They seem to be smaller and have less selection than their sister brand winners. My better half said it was horrible in comparison to winners (she is more patient than I for those type of stores).

That development specifically is so poorly laid out and the traffic flow is a nightmare. Not really sure what they were thinking when they designed that place. Also the usage of the land is quite inefficient, they could have put quite a few more stores given the amount of space they have. Itt almost seems like there is a secondary plan to expand it when the time is right.

Also have to say the land where Walmart wanted to enter on marine is becoming a massive eyesore and it almost looks like the building sitting there is on the verge of collapsing. I wonder if walmart still owns the land (i'm guessing they do)

Wal-Mart confirmed for Royal City Centre:

Wal-Mart coming to Uptown
Mayor says mini Wal-Mart coming to Royal City Centre

By Niki Hope, The Record
May 17, 2013 8:28 AM

The Royal City Centre retail mystery is solved.

Mayor Wayne Wright told a crowd of about 45 at his state-of-the-city address that Wal-Mart is the new anchor tenant at the Royal City Centre.

The Record reported last month that a local resident named Greg Daily received an email survey from Air Miles asking him if he will shop at an "urban" Wal-Mart at Royal City Centre.

In November, the Globe and Mail news-paper wrote a story about Wal-Mart's move toward "smaller stores tailored to urban cores."

The story states the company was on a building frenzy, but many of the stores were "smaller than the prototype box with more design and content tailored to the characteristics of the communities they are joining."

At the time, Monika Hildebrand, vice-president of the Western Canada corporate office of the company that owns Royal City Centre, Strathallen Capital Corp., was surprised to hear about the Air Miles survey. Hildebrand could not be reached for comment, and Royal City Centre staff would not confirm or deny the new tenant. Wright also could not be reached for comment.

As mentioned by Retail-Insider Browns is opening in the former Levi's location @ 1068 Robson.
They've completely gutted the store including removal of the staircase. The hoarding indicates a July opening.

--------------

Also reported by Retail-Insider, work has now begun to relocate the existing Footlocker at 1147 Robson into the former Nike store @ 1124 Robson.

--------------

And the newest location of Body Energy Club has opened @ 428 Robson across from the library.

And the latest pic of the Carlyle illustrates the corner unit is 2 levels. I would think all of them would be.

It is next to Target on the ground floor and facing H&M accross the Grand Court.
A few stores were relocated so they can move in.

I would assume so.... most unisex stores only do about 20-30% of sales based off of the men's side of the business.

On top of that west coast/asian style doesn't favor preppy men's style so it's a smart choice for Jcrew to go the way they did.
