Loews submits new plans for Downtown hotel
By Jacob Steimer – Staff Reporter, Memphis Business Journal

Quote:
Loews Hotels is pushing forward with a shorter version of the convention center hotel it has proposed for Downtown Memphis. The New York-based hotel company is seeking the Memphis and Shelby County Land Use Control Board's approval for a roughly 500-room, 21-story tower at 140 N. Main St., which is currently part of Civic Center Plaza. Loews had previously announced it would pursue a 26-story, 550-room tower.

DREAM MEMPHIS 12 stories 178 rooms

I made a card for the incredible Dream Hotel proposed in Memphis near the famous Beale Street district, which was reported in this topic last July.

Renowned hotel and brand management company Dream Hotel Group today announced plans to bring its Dream Hotels brand to Downtown Memphis set to open in 2022. In partnership with Memphis real estate developer 18Main, the group is proud to introduce a new boutique hotel that both reinvents the traditional hotel experience and celebrates the city's rich history, dynamic food and entertainment scene, and growing demand for innovation.

Representing a major milestone for the hospitality brand, Dream Memphis will mark the second Dream Hotels location in Tennessee, following the highly anticipated opening of Dream Nashville earlier this year. The boutique hotel will feature 178 guestrooms and four highly activated dining and nightlife venues, including a signature restaurant, lobby lounge, coffee shop and rooftop bar with indoor and outdoor event space.

Nice. I love the concept of this project. I enjoy your informative quality graphics on the Nashville thread and would encourage you to post here at your convenience. So many great things to cover with the Nashville Boom & Memphis Renaissance.

I love Memphis and did a lot of work here until I retired. You probably frequently drive through some of my traffic engineering projects (the good ones). It's such a great city. Maybe the TV series, Bluff City Law, will do for Memphis what 'Nashville' did for them.

Interesting. That's a topic I like to give updates on in this thread. Especially when it comes to the bolstering & expansion of the interstate & highway system in & around the city-region. Memphis had some long-neglected chokepoints, but now the massive street grid coupled with said freeway is moving traffic at astounding & increasing efficiency. We're still waiting for the I-55 @ Riverside Dr flyover and Lamar Ave./ I-22 upgrade. 20 - 25 years ago we were among the worst for traffic in a mid-sized city. Now, we have one of the shortest commute times in the nation. In whatever way you contributed to that, much thanks.

To be clear, this was a late competing proposal for the Convention Center hotel which looks to not be moving forward as a deal with Loews on Civic Plaza is now "imminent". Just wanted to share this rendering which shows some great reimagining of the exterior on 100 N. Main for future reference.

For sale ... again: The saga of Washington Bottoms
A.J Dugger III and Cole Bradley | High Ground News

Tucked inside a few quiet blocks on the border between Midtown and the Medical District sits the remnants of the Washington Bottoms Community Park and Gardens... Since the early 2000s, residents in the homes and apartments surrounding the land have watched the parcels switch hands and seen promises like the Midtown Memphis Planned Development and rumors like the long-fabled Midtown Target come and go.

New projects in the Pinch and Medical Districts---St. Jude and Southern College of Optometry reveal apartment projects

"ALSAC senior counsel Kelly Rayne told the Memphis & Shelby County Board of Adjustment Wednesday, Sept. 25, that her organization was reviewing RFP responses for the construction of apartments above first-floor retail at both the northwest and southwest corners of Overton Avenue and Second Street."

"The SCO project, which would be developed Makowsky Ringel Greenberg, is set to appear at the Board of Adjustment's October meeting, so it's application was released on Wednesday.

With that project, a mixed-use building with 108 apartments would replace the surface parking lot that runs on the north side of Madison Avenue, from Claybrook Street to Montgomery Street."

Board OKs exceptions for giant warehouse
By Tom Bailey/ The Daily Memphian

Quote:
The planned building and its two-story parking garage will fill an entire block immediately west of the main St. Jude campus. The site is bounded by North Third on the east, Overton on the north, North Second on the west and Jackson on the south. St. Jude is seeking state approvals to build an elevated, enclosed pedestrian connection between the main campus and the new building. The building represents St. Jude’s first substantial expansion west into the Pinch District.

It seems like there is a great deal of hotel construction in Memphis these days. I wonder if this mini boom will help the city meet the hotel room availability criteria required to host an NBA all star game? Maybe by the time Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. become all stars Memphis will be a host city? One can dream.

No doubt! Already got my NBALP subscription geared up. Can't forget about Brandon Clarke! Kid was SO fun to watch in Summer League... second most productive player in all of college basketball behind Zion.
