United Properties revamps design of 33-story tower for downtown Minneapolis

Quote:
United Properties revealed a new design Monday for the 33-story tower it wants to build on the north end of Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis, fresh after landing RBC Wealth Management as the anchor tenant.

The building, which for now is being called the Gateway in a nod to the district that for years was known as the entrance to downtown, will likely have a new name announced in the fall, said Bill Katter, president and chief investment officer of United Properties.

"There is still work to do to get this done, but I would say it's a breakthrough," Katter said Monday. "I think it's a breakthrough for downtown. It's been many years since it has had a tower with class A office [space], hotel and condos."

33 stories, probably around 425 ft, and a downgrade from the previous design.

Another Stubby Wide Body! Somewhat of a dissapointment....Many of us were hoping for at least 40 floors and considering RBC is going to anchor this building, I'd have thought it would be a more significant tower!

I'll take anything we can get. If anything, as lots are developed, the remaining ones will become more expensive and force larger things. We will see...

^^ We shouldn't sell ourselves short here! I commented over at SSC.....Good design but would like to see it a little narrower and maybe 6-10 stories taller and you'd have a fantastic building, IMO! RBC is going to anchor this building!

It looks like this will finally happen now...with RBC and Four Seasons signed on, and final approvals. Final design in 37 stories and 503 feet.

MNMike: I hope this thing gets going finally! With "Eleven" and "200 Central"....All 500' plus....should be nice additions to the skyline! I would like to see the "Gateway" tower a little taller and Narrower. Sounds like it's going to be 503'....I was hoping for 600'.
