That nasty 6-7 floor apartment block on the right looks ripe for re-development.... or at the very least, a complete re-clad.

I think you're talking about the Marriott Residence Inn, the poster child for Halifax's late '80s/early '90s faux-Victorian fetish. If you were one of the brave people wanting to develop something new in parts of the DT back then, it had to be (a) short and (b) look old. That building is the epitome of that, with red brick and styrofoam cornice decoration. I remember when it was being built I worked just down the street and would pass it every day. During most of the final stages of construction if was surrounded by tarp-enclosed scaffolding so the finishes were invisible. When it was finally removed, I cannot tell you how disappointing and unremarkable it looked. I suspect a reclad any time soon is unlikely, but it would do wonders.

The Marriott Residence doesn't bother me, and the Tramway building has unfortunately been neglected and will soon get some attention (hopefully it will end well). Since we are giving opinions, the only 'eyesore' in that photo is that blank black cube that is the back end of the new building which replaced the Tip Top building. Totally unimaginative and cheap-looking - it's disappointing that they couldn't have done something better in such a highly-visible location. The only upside is that at least they didn't clad it in red like the Dillon...

It's the Prince George that ruins the picture for me. Awkwardly shoehorned into the block, and uncomfortable to walk beside, now owned by Atlific Hotels, sadly is not going anywhere. It's sister site though, The Cambridge Suites will soon be developed me thinks. A friend on the maintenance staff griped about how they've reduced his workload, and are doing the bare minimum. On top of their Retail leases being none renewable, the question comes down to how long they are going to run that building down.

Off topic sorry, it's my first day home in 17.

The Cambridge Suites doesn't make very good use of its lot. Even just building it out to Brunwick would add a lot of square footage.

I'm wondering if those random vertical strips will eventually light up?

I've been wondering the same thing. At first I thought maybe they had to do with privacy between units, which would make sense on the concave part of the building but wouldn't on the curve.

Either way though, I am really happy with how this one is turning out.

Agreed. Really nice use of materials with this one and I'm excited to see how to the sandstone base turns out. I do wish it was twice as tall though would be nice to see some 25-30 story towers with this kind of slender profile
