Honestly this wouldn't be AS bad if they had made some sort of competent attempt at tying into the stone through complimentary color. Mauve? What the hell were they thinking? Even a complete aesthetic amateur can glaringly see that it clashes like all hell. Imagine that mauve mess being a warm copper or rust color, and with a few more cosmetic improvements this house wouldn't look HALF as barf inducing as it sits right now.

Judging by the silhouettes in the background it's likely the neighbors' houses are even worse-- the pictured monstrosity minus any of the sort of redeeming kitschy details.

I agree: it's not that bad, but I kind of cringed at it at first, too. Those window-balcony combinations look like black holes. And I hate that glossy purple brick which has become ubiquitous in Chicago. What's with it?

Villa Taj has some questionably placed columns, and the landscaping leaves a lot to be desired, but the craftsmanship is outstanding and the design is certainly original. I wouldn't pay $30 mil for it...if I had that kind of money. Maybe $10 or $12 mil.

I actually don't mind the purple one, so no worries. What I was hoping everyone would notice was the checkerboard cmu block POS, and that odd house with the astro turf on the fasia

My only criticisms of the purple 3 flat is it could have been more successful without the overdone ornamentation around the doors. Juliet balconies look awful 80% of the time because architects do not know how to design them well into buildings, so by default, that typically makes them architecturally unacceptable. But overall it's not tacky. I'm indifferent to it, but it wasn't the subject I had intended to bring attention to.

Take the tower down, and you might have a nice modern house.

yes, that tower is ridiculous and ruins a perfectly good house.

These two aren't garbagey like most of the houses in this thread but I find them both ridiculously garish. (Salt Lake area, photos by me)

The Greek temple house:

It has a name.. "Villa Bellisima"

The eclectic castle house:

It's been sitting unfinished for like a year now, got graffiti'd, deserved it

Gosh darn, look at that roof line. Must have cost a fortune to even build it this far...

How about an exact replica of Mount Vernon in Texas? Belle Nora was built in the 50's right off of White Rock Lake in Dallas.
