"After an international design competition and nearly two years of design, the high-profile, 2.5-million-square-foot Chinatrust Bank headquarters has broken ground in Taiwan. Designed by the Los Angeles office of NBBJ, in cooperation with the local firm Fei & Cheng Associates, the project is slated to reach completion in 2012.

The Chinatrust Bank development will consist of a 30-story headquarters building, a 21-story commercial office building, a 10-story hotel, and a four-level retail center."

Depend on the policy....
The site of ChinaTrust Headquarter is located at Nangang, where there has limited height 145m.
And also, depend on client....
If client doesn't like it, this design will not come true.

Of course it would, but the aholes that run chinese taipei and their corporate masters lack the vision to develop such a tasteful project. I wish I could put it in kinder gentler words but that is the naked unvarnished truth.

Maybe your own version of the truth? I'd imagine building something asymmetrical in Taiwan (if possible) would cost X times more expensive than somewhere not earthquake prone. Let's not forget Taiwan has one of the strictest building code.

And what's wrong with the proposed building? I think it looks really good. It fits with the overall skyline of Nankang quite well.

So how do you explain the taller corporate towers in Banciao?

The proposed complex should be in Xinyi. Building this in Nangang completely undermines the government's stated goals for both the Xinyi (financial center)and Nangang (technology park) zones. Also of note, this is the second financial institution in the last few years to relocate their HQ outside of what was supposed to be the country's financial cluster. IBT relocated to Neihu last year. A move that Taipei Mayor Hau referred to as "visionary".

I only think about what will they do for the primarily headquarter in Xinyi.
