Beginning today, the Ponce de Leon Avenue grocery store colloquially known as "Murder Kroger" will be undergoing a facelift.

The "highly visible" improvements to the Kroger building and its environs include a permanent bicycle/pedestrian ramp to the Eastside Trail, more trees, new landscaping, a new parking surface and a fresh coat of paint for Beltline Kroger itself, officials said.

1330 West Peachtree Street: Urban Realty Partners is seeking to convert the Arthritis Foundation’s five-story office building into a mixed-use restaurant/retail and apartment building. The architecture firm PRAXIS3 is leading the design team and they presented a concept that includes 98 apartment units and approximately 5,000 SF of street-level retail/restaurant space on West Peachtree Street. The DRC recommended approval for the project given that no variations from the zoning code were requested.

1010 West Peachtree Street: The Hanover Company returned to the DRC with updates to their 6-story mixed-use project known as Hanover Midtown. The proposal includes approximately 328 residential units and 14,600 SF of retail fronting on 10th Street. The DRC recommended approval and was particularly supportive of the retail component, which is well integrated into the project and located on an emerging retail corridor anchored by Georgia Tech on the west and Piedmont Park to the east.

Buckhead Atlanta has made much of the firsts it is bringing to the market in retail shops and restaurants; but OliverMcMillan has another first to brag about—the first residents will move into The Residences Buckhead Atlanta right on time as initially projected.

“The first residents of The Residences Buckhead Atlanta will move in Sept. 2 if our leasing staff has to help them move their belongings into their apartment.” Viniard told BuckheadView.com last week. The two towers will total 370 luxury apartments when completed.

Buckhead Atlanta’s apartment towers are reportedly leasing at the highest rates in the city, close to $2.50 a foot. And, the expectation is that leasing activity should pick up in coming weeks as construction activity begins to wind down. For now, tours are limited.

Possible big news ... driving to work today I passed the 33 Peachtree Pl site. They were unloading a small tractor onto the 33 Peachtree Pl property. Half of W. Peachtree was also coned off and there was an officer standing by, but the coned off area was the "wrong" side (the half adjacent to Plaza). Still this could be a sign of construction starting soon!

As it enjoys record enrollment, Georgia State University is planning another student housing project — and may need to look at even more residences in coming years just to meet the demand.

The Board of Regents on Aug. 20 was expected to authorize the purchase of about 1.1 acres at John Wesley Dobbs and 82 Piedmont Ave., an area that’s already the focus of Georgia State’s student housing developments. It’s undecided how large this latest residence hall will become, GSU spokesman Don Hale said.

Yeah I don't know what's going on. There's definitely activity there. There are metal plates all along West Peachtree for utility work that I can only assume has to do with the future building. I saw another smallish tractor there today too. Here are some pics:

A couple of pictures for this one too, from Saturday. There is activity at the site but I'm not sure how to classify it. It looks like they are laying down straw or hay.

A lively section of Poncey-Highland could be shedding a surface parking lot soon. Developers tell Curbed Atlanta they plan to break ground in January on a project called "675 N. Highland" next to historic Druid Hills Baptist Church. It could be the first post-Recession condominium development in Atlanta to offer more than a couple of dozen units — in addition to 12,500 square feet of street retail and 7,500 square feet of offices. While the project is in nascent stages, it promises to be "a beautiful new product that this area has not seen for quite some time," said David Tufts, president of The Marketing Directors, which is partnering with Joe Laster of Abraham Properties on the project. Plans call for up to 124 condos.

This projects looks GREAT!
I would love to see similar projects lining streets such as Ponce, North and Piedmont.

I walked by 811 Peachtree st last night and saw the back half of the lot taped off and a heavy paving mover. Don't know if project starting or repaving the parking lot. Hopefully the project is starting.?.?

On the heels of sizable developments near Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Emory, Oglethorpe University and Gables Residential are partnering for a fittingly gothic apartment community called "Gables Oglethorpe," set to break ground any day. The private, liberal-arts college expects its student population to explode from 1,100 students to 1,500 in the next five years, and this four-story offering of 374 apartments should help ease growing pains. The project will also feature classroom space and a community park, connected by pedestrian pathways to Oglethorpe's main campus. But officials imply the rental units will be open to non-students, too.

Renovations are continuing at the Norfolk Southern building. The outer fence was removed, revealing some new lighting and landscaping.



Five seconds on Google revealed that nothing interesting is going on inside, just some office renovations. Thanks, Internet

Today I noticed a lot of dirt moving on the west side of Defoors Ferry just north of Collier. Apparently it's going to be 23 townhomes. This one slipped under the radar.
