That is some of the worst glass I've ever seen on a skyscraper...

^ Nice view. I hope the 6 story low-rise structure gets demolished in the future for 2 more towers.

^ Now this glass looks amazing, IMO! I would love to see them wrap these sterile ass blue glass boxes with more of this type of glazing. It adds so much more detail than transparency...

^^ That wasn't intentional, that's just poor quality.

If you're referring to the long building along the Ogden slip, that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The old North Pier building has offices, a large gallery/collaborative art space and a few years ago, condos that were planned for the top 2-3 floors (don't think that's happening any time soon). I don't think it's really fully leased anymore but (unfortunately) the old Prentice Women's hospital has a better chance of getting torn down before North Pier..sadly

^ Besides, the North Pier building adds some history and texture to an otherwise rather bland Streeterville streetscape. This part of town needs more buildings like this, not fewer.

There are still PLENTY of sites in the area for highrises.

The north pier building is mostly vacant, with gallery space on the first floor and basement, and offices in the upper floors, though there's a LOT of empty space. It's a very beautiful building inside and out though. You can walk right in 8am-6pm m-f. Take a look at the exposed heavy timber structure inside if you have the chance.

Yes, traffic was bad today. Yes, as I was about ready to setup the shot traffic moved. Yes, I should not be taking pictures while driving. But I sat in front of this building for so long I decided to snap a shot.

I gotta say, the pattern effect on this building looks to be much more subtle then intended....

I don't know, if you look at hayward'd photo above (from the southwest) the striping is pretty distinct. I think the effect is subtle in a lot of photos but I thought it was more noticeable in person. Plus, only a portion of the building is clad so far. Once the whole thing is done the striping wont be so easily hidden in reflections.

The core is finished on this one, as I noticed the self-rising system parts being removed....

Air Show Shots

I got this shot while on a friend's rooftop for the Air Show. It gives a pretty good view of the topped out core...

Those white strips are far more subtle in real life than the rendering would suggest.
