It'll be a nice addition to the area. It won't stand out too much. There are a lot of similar sized research towers and UC buildings in the area.

From ghost town to night-on-the-town: Downtown Cincinnati's revitalization

Here's some bullet points from the end of the article:

Quote:
Growing And Growing (According to the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce):
*In 2011, Cincinnati had higher total job and private-sector job growth than the U.S. overall and Ohio overall. And more growth than Columbus and Cleveland combined
*Cincinnati has the most jobs of any region in Ohio for the first time since the data has been tracked in 1990.
*Cincinnati has more total employment growth than markets such as Minneapolis/St. Paul, Denver, Indianapolis and Charlotte, among others.
*In 2011, Cincinnati created almost half as many jobs as the entire state of Ohio.
*The Cincinnati region had 1.8 percent job growth in 2011 or 17,200 jobs.
* 3CDC has built 186 residential units in Over-the-Rhine to date. 94 percent are sold. Twelve condos are left.
* 3CDC has built 91,000 square feet of commercial space which is 85 percent leased
* 3CDC is set to break ground on 238 new residential units and 34,000 square feet of commercial space (this includes Mercer Commons, Paint Building, and seven projects in OTR Phase V Development – a total of 38 more buildings being renovated)
* 3CDC owns 200 buildings in the area from Central Parkway on the south to Liberty on the north, Elm on the west to Main on the East and 169 vacant parcels. 3CDC has rehabilitated 50 of these and are poised on another 50.
*Work on the Streetcar project is underway.

New phase at Stetson homes
Corryville project to get 18 more units
Quote:
CORRYVILLE — A second phase of 18 townhomes will soon be built at the Village of Stetson Square, the $80 million community that opened in 2006 to help transform residential options in the high-employment corridor.

Developer Great Traditions Land & Development Co. has a contract to develop a 0.63-acre parcel of land behind its existing apartment building and pool on Rochelle Street. Executives with the Sharonville company presented development plans to the city of Cincinnati’s strategic growth committee on Monday.

And another... it was a big day for new proposals!

Oakley apartment complex proposed
Quote:
OAKLEY — A new apartment complex has been proposed for Oakley.

Developers presented a plan for Oakley Lofts, which will consist of 60 one- and two-bedroom apartments at Madison Road and Appleton Street, during the May Oakley Community Council meeting.

The five-story building will have a commercial component on the first floor. The upper floors will be residential.

The rental fee for the apartments is estimated to be between $900 to $1,000 with a facade that developer Chris Bortz described as contemporary.

A seperate building will be built at the Banks to house Yard House.

Yard House to open first Ohio restaurant along Cincinnati’s central riverfront
Quote:
The Banks development team announced today that Yard House, an upscale American fusion restaurant with 100-250 taps, will open its first location in Ohio on Cincinnati’s central riverfront.

The 10,000-square-foot restaurant will be the first stand-alone commercial tenant at The Banks, and will be located immediately in front of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center at the corner of Walnut Street and Freedom Way. Project officials say that the new structure will have an urban, industrial design featuring an open floor plan, exposed pipes, warm moods and stainless steel accents.

Yeah it sucks. Oakley is an urban neighborhood too.

There used to be a cool old factory on the site that they were going to convert into a movie theater, shopping, and apartments. Somehow we ended up with this mess

Here's the original plan:

We have something kind of similar id say. Steelyard Commons. It really could have been alot more than it is. Its just south of Downtown in the Industrial Valley. Used to be a bunch of factories and steel mills there back in the day. All were torn down many many years ago before any plan was thought up, so the development replaced ugly, empty brownfields, which is great. BUT, its only a bunch of big box, strip mall stores with some out lot restaurants, surrounded by a sea of parking. Its nicer than your average bigbox in that it has a bunch of "steel plant" decor, but it could have been so much more. Its a start though!

That figures. I guess we'll both just have to wait until these places get replaced by something better. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

The Federal Reserve Tower apartments are nearing completion!

Check out the pics and article below:

Historic Reserve building gets makeover
Quote:
DOWNTOWN — A half-century ago, bankers gathered in the 14th-story gentleman’s lounge of 105 W. 4th Street, a room of dark oak walls embossed with Renaissance-era columns and a 28-foot ceiling lined in an ornate gold frieze of angels.
..........
By August, that tall room will transform into nine penthouse apartment units at The Reserve, downtown’s newest luxury apartment complex and its largest residential historic renovation since 2006. The $18 million development, bringing 88 one and two-bedroom units to market, is among the most complex, significant and passion-filled projects for a team of developers, financiers, architects and designers led by Bill Kreutzjans Jr. of Ashley Commercial Group in Edgewood.

Cincinnati receives national bicycle award, announces bike share feasibility study
Quote:
City officials announced today that Cincinnati has been named a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. The award comes after two previous failed attempts, and makes Cincinnati the only city in Ohio to receive the recognition.

..........

City officials and bicycling advocates also took the opportunity today to announce that Cincinnati will begin a bike share feasibility study for the region’s urban core. The process, officials say, will begin in June and be completed by August this year. The work will be done by Alta Planning+Design, which is the same firm that has developed and implemented bike share programs in Washington D.C., Boston and New York City.
