The key private property owner in the city’s South Waterfront district will report this week that clean-up of a brownfield site near Oregon Health & Science University has been completed.
Jay Zidell, president of ZRZ Realty Company and part of the family that owns the marine service company just north of OHSU, will tell Portland’s City Council that the $20 million project has resulted in a cleaner 30-acre site. The efforts took 15 years and marked the “largest privately conducted and privately funded cleanup on the Willamette River,” according to Len Bergstein, a consultant who’s working with Zidell.
All told, the project includes:
About 2,700 linear feet of cleaned river bank.
Two-and-a-half acres of removed invasive vegetation.
Some 15,000 newly planted shrubs and 212 new trees.
Zidell will present specifics of his company’s efforts at the Wednesday afternoon city council meeting. He’s scheduled to speak at 2:45 p.m. at Portland’s City Hall, 1221 S.W. Fourth Ave.
Andy Giegerich covers government, law, health care and sports business.
