[Burnaby] UniverCity Developments

I imagine a lot of you don't get up to the top of Burnaby Mountain very much, so I thought I would share some of the latest developments on the hill. Photos are my own unless otherwise credited.

Nest
5 floor wood-frame - Completed
Residents moved in starting around July.

Origin
4 floor wood-frame - U/C
Slated to be finished within the next couple weeks

Highland House
12 storey concrete - U/C

In addition, two other projects, Lift and Altitude, have their lots cleared and will be under construction soon.

Lift
5 floor wood frame
Should begin construction very soon

Altitude
2 concrete towers, 12 and 14 stories
Construction begins within the next 6 months, I think

Polygon application for SFU Parcel 30. This proposed
156 unit condominium project is designed as two 5- and 6-storey structural wood frame residential buildings on top of a stepped single level concrete podium garage.

Thanks for the updates! I haven't been up to SFU in years and it's really nice to see an update. May I request a big photo update when someone up there has the time and inclination (and nice weather)?

In case you hadn't thought of it, google street view for the UniverCity area was updated in July.

From the Journal of Commerce:

CentreBlock at the Top
by Richard Gilbert Aug 24, 2016

CentreBlock is a new condo and townhouse development under construction at Simon Fraser University at the top of Burnaby Mountain.

The mixed-use development with a total of 184 residential units spans an entire block and rises from a six-storey midrise to a 16-storey tower that marks the entrance to the commercial district. On Highland Court to the north, the structure is reduced to a row of three-storey wood frame townhomes. The two buildings are linked by an internal courtyard. Liberty Homes is developer and the project is scheduled for completion in 2016.

I stumbled upon this picture while googling for pictures. I thought that a lot of the purple area is the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area. Are they planning to develop the purple areas? Does this have anything to do with pipeline construction as well? IDK I'm just wondering

There's nothing about the gondola being built anytime soon - this is that they're setting aside the space for it. More exciting (as it will happen before any gondola action) is "An existing grass field immediately east of Strand Hall Annex is the planned site of a new landmark building that will house a 25,000-sq-ft art museum, which could have optimal views of Burrard Inlet and the mountains."

Yeah I wouldn't hold my breath... my street has had a huge "future rapid transit" setback from the road for 40+ years now.

I am very confused, is the gondola actually happening?

Also someone needs to do a good photo tour up there, there is so much to see it looks good. Cali burger is opening soon if not open yet and the miniso up there was quite busy when i went there. I was really surpried by how much there is up there now.
