Talking At Home Coming to Newnan

It sucks that the old Gander Mountain couldn't be reopened as Gander Outdoors and Bass Pro Shop wasn't interested (now leaving a void as far as camping/outdoors retailers), but I guess At Home will do.

A major home decor retailer is planning to open in the former Gander Mountain location at 361 Newnan Crossing Bypass. At Home, a large, chain home decor store, has announced plans to open a new location in the building.

At Home Group, Inc. plans to do more than $3 million in renovations to the building, which was constructed and opened as Gander Mountain in 2014. According to plans obtained by The City Menus, the company plans to add additional space as well as renovate the existing 86,693-square-foot building.

At Home is based in Plano, Texas, and carries a large variety of both indoor and outdoor home decor items. The large, chain retailer currently has more than 100 locations throughout the United States, including a nearby location in Douglasville.

Bids are currently being accepted on the project, which is estimated to begin on July 9.

Sears at Southlake Mall to Close

This effectively only leaves one anchor (Macy's) at the only traditional mall in South Atlanta. Not good.

Another Taco Bell Coming to Newnan

Site plans and renderings have been submitted to the city. Also, a cloth barrier fence is now surrounding the site, so groundbreaking is likely imminent.

There were conceptual renderings presented in the board of commissioners meeting, but I'm unable to find them.

Workers have been actively clearing the trees on this site over the past few weeks.

At first glance, it looks like yet another Industrial Park.

For comparison, the Bridgeport Industrial Park (in Newnan) will be 8.5 million sq. ft. at complete build out.

S-17,

At the bottom of the DRI form, the developer is asked to note if this is a phased project and the developer stated NO and said the single phase project and it would be completed by 2023.

Just spit ballin here
Apple did say, they were going to spend $20 Billion in the US and create 20K jobs in 5 years. Just sayin'.

Yeah, I usually don't buy those time frames given for South Atlanta projects.

For starters, with that application, it was a Henry County employee who completed it on behalf of the developer. For all we know, they could have put any ol' thing on there just to get it submitted.

Second, massive projects on this side of town seem to always move slower than expected or get delayed, partially because we're not growing nearly as fast as downtown/midtown and North Atlanta and partially because the developers we tend to attract are far less experienced in handling massive projects.

For example, below is a DRI for the Orchard Hills Business Park here in Coweta County. It states a completion date of 2018.

https://apps.dca.ga.gov/DRI/InitialForm.aspx?driid=2684

Well, I can tell you there's been absolutely no constructiom activity on the site and we're now half way through 2018. And the developers for this are actually very experienced (they have a similar business park in Forsyth County) and as if the last media report in January 2017, they had a tenant lined up.

Third, the bullet point selected under development type states "industrial."

No way is it Apple. Most of the region's tech talent is north of I-20 (North Fulton), so even if they were coming to Atlanta, it makes little sense for them to build their facility that far south (unless they're near the airport with access to MARTA at Aerotropolis). However, it could be a data center.

The top section always list a county employee. Toward the bottom, you see the contact from the developer or agent of the developer.

When I speculated an Apple project I was vaguely suggesting an Apple manufacturing plant. It could be for cars, displays, computer, phones, vr...etc.

You are correct not all DRI happen. They merely point to active projects that may or may not happen. This one just happens to be f'en huge!

Oh yes, it seems significant, I agree. Likely more jobs and tax revenue.

Apple is partnering with VW to produce driverless cars. Considering VW owned Porsche is already HQ in Atlanta, it is not really far fetched to speculate Atlanta could be an area they would potentially want to manufacture.

Construction bid has gone out. This is in Peachtree City.

Big liquor store approved for Kedron’s last slot

Planning Commission votes 3-1 in favor of ‘beautiful’ 8,500-sq.ft. World of Beverages

Approval from the Peachtree City Planning Commission was obtained April 9 on the last commercial parcel at the Kedron Village Shopping Center. The outparcel site will be home to the Kedron World of Beverage.

The vote to approve the conceptual site plan and elevations for the 8,500 sq. ft. building was 3-1, with Commissioner Jack Bernard opposing.

Like others on the board, Bernard said he liked the look of the building, but questioned if “the look will fit.”

The building is situated on the inter-parcel access road in the area of the Wendy’s restaurant and A.R. Biddle and Associates and near Ga. Highway 74 North.

Project representative Jefferson Browne (photo above) said the design intended to create different elements that do not look like a retail strip center offering, adding that the intent was to create a building that looked warm and inviting.

Chairman Frank Destadio categorized the building as beautiful, and one that did not look like a liquor store. Others on the commission agreed.

Brown said the building would be constructed of dark charcoal brick, medium brown brick, a material similar to Hardiplank with a wood look and texture and corrugated metal. Rather than utilizing customary safety bollards, the project will used raised planters, said Browne.

City planning staff recommended approval.

Hitachi Subsidiary Locates HQ to Newnan

It's a small score for the Southside, but Hitachi recently relocated their NA corporate HQ from Kennesaw to Newnan with 125 employees.

It will compliment their manufacturing facility already based in Newnan, which employs 55 people.

Kia Hyundai just announced a massive reorganization of their regional headquarters, expected to be completed by 2019.

It'll be interesting to see what effects this will have on Georgia in support of the West Point plant (hopefully, more corporate jobs or even relocations).

The Shenandoah Community Association effectively shut this one down in the 6/19 city council meeting, for a 2nd time (the developer brought this same request forward last October).

So now the project's in limbo, pending approval of a variance to have only one entrance (Coweta County requires developments of this size to have more than one, and the only other access point is within Newnan's city limits).
