They're all pretty similar I think, just at different stages. For example, the torch and 23 marina were at the same stage as princess and ocean heights before.

This city is just ever growing. Most cities in the US are lucky if they have one building over 1000ft. Yet here is a whole area full of them. They all look intresting. A nice project to watch grow, thats for sure...

Dubai is what a s*** load of oil money will do for you. The Saudi's invest heavily in Dubai, as well as other oil rich nations in the gulf region. That $3/gallon you pay at the gas pump doesn't ALL go toward Exxon or BP profits like you hear in the news. The middle east is reaping the rewards of a limited oil supply and increasing demand.

The shiek in charge basically runs the whole show, and he has a very ambitious development plan. Tax-free development zones help too. I don't know if they have restrictions on building heights, but it sure doesn't seem like it.

A friend in California pointed me here re the Infinity drama. I've not worked on high-rise for 30 years so am rather out of the loop. Back then >100m was tall for Brisbane! I'm now a residential Building Designer specialising in remodelling.
I have a few questions:

1. Are core walls formed by self-elevating systems similar to the Lubeca system common in the mid-70s?
2. Is the predominance of hammerheads due to lack of supply of Favco-type cranes or just the sheer footprint of the projects?
3. @Malec: What software did you use to model the twisting tower?
4. What mPa concrete do they use & how far away is their aggregate source? The logistics of so much construction in such a small area boggles the mind.

Only 16% or less of Dubai's GDP consists of oil, while tourism is like 19%, and its growing. If you look at the charts oil isnt included. All of the growth is coming from real-estate, free trade, and their convineint location.

Dubai proper doesn't generate alot of revenue from oil reserves, but a ton of investment from outside sources are funding projects from oil profits, like the Saudis.
