I rode the EBA to Swissvale then walked from there to Wilkinsburg, a nice 2.5 mile walk in the cold and snow. Sidewalks were horribly not shoveled and I was forced to walk in the street a lot. These are from 18 days ago:

Wilkinsburg:

Homes around along the way:

Western PA School for the Deaf. I went to Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia from K-8th grade and that school is across the street from the PA School for the Deaf:

Edgewood train station, not used anymore for rail service:

This is a small city a 1.5 hour bus ride north of downtown Pittsburgh. These are the photos of the city I took when I visited in February:

My first view after stepping off the bus:

A neighborhood on the hill above downtown, near George Washington Intermediate school:

Snow is gone from Pittsburgh, and yesterday it was 60 degrees F, but I am going to take us back a few weeks to the winter wonderland Pittsburgh was. These will be my last snow shots until the fall:

Loved your shots of New Castle! That's my hometown, and I did a double-take when I saw them. Believe it or not, NC was one of the fastest-growing cities in the country at the turn of the 20th century, and a very prosperous one. You have some pictures of the mansions of the industrialists in your post. Even during my own teen years in the 70s, there was still a lot of industry, and downtown was packed with four department stores and all the storefronts were occupied by mostly local businesses.

Cool, too bad it isn't anymore. Wish I could have explored the neighborhoods a bit more.

The Red Line??? What happened to the 47L and 42S trains?!?

In any event, I love whats to be seen here. Pittsburgh is a one of a kind city, and there is no other city in America like it. I miss it.

Port Authority is undergoing a huge redesign of the transit system. They hired a firm from California and routes are getting cut, rerouted, name changed, or combined. The lightrails are now the Blue (42C/42S), Red (47L), and Brown (52) lines. The first round of changes happened April 4th, and they will continue throughout the year. The buses between downtown and Oakland later in the year or next year will become "Rapid Routes" with payment before boarding and brand new articulated buses. See link here.

I am about to be leaving Pittsburgh for the summer, but before I go I have a few more batches of photos to show. And hopefully soon I will have enough for a GF1/GF2 (have saved up $300 on Amazon and hope to get a summer job).

Walking to or from Schenley Park yields this view:

The Blvd of the Allies view:

Oakland away from the Pitt campus:

The Skyline from Soho:

The Bon Air section of the city is a little secluded:

The Bon Air light rail station leads to a street with no sidewalk, and the station is surrounded by woods:

The skyline from Herron Ave:

I took this train, the Pennsylvanian home to Philly for Thanksgiving break, long but fun ride. Eventually this might be part of a high speed rail corridor that would stretch to Chicago, but for now it is disel:

I'm not finished, I still have 35 left to upload. And my parents are talking about sending me back to do some summer classes up there (my grades are not too good), so you never know.
