Great stuff!! Interesting to see pics of Christchurch - still appears to be a lot of work to do.

How was the beer?

God, it's depressing to think about what happened to Christchurch.

thanks! i developed a fondness for the old british colonial type beer, but theres tons of ipas, etc. overall the “bad” beer wasn’t so bad at all, and the “really good” beer not as great as advertised.

one of the funnier things was buying craft beer from the store in plastic two liter soda bottles.

regarding christchurch, i was a bit surprised to see how bad it still was. however, downtown was sort of half alive in a hopeful way and seemed to be really gaining momentum with new construction. the entire region had a lot of new construction, in fact.

Wow, It looks like a nice version of California, that isn't so sickly dry and polluted. Great pics.

depending on the mood of the weather or whatever funny micro-climate you are in, new zealand has flashes of the entire u.s. west coast. or england (and an hour later you feel like you are in santa monica in 1903).

thanks...by the way, the fish and chips that i photographed there were the best i've ever had, the pier hotel in kaikoura, north of christchurch. big pints of malty beer and a view to wash it down with.

Awesome thread with gorgeous pics and heck New Zealand could pass for coastal areas of northern California!! Some of those old buildings look like some here in Sacramento!

Thanks for the thread Centropolis.

I don't know. seems like NZ is too far away from everywhere and everything, how they people manage to survive is a myth.

personally i thought it was great, like a little habitable moon-planet. although sometimes it felt like australia sort of would cool-slide into the mix, beats blastin’ from a v-8 holden.

I was thinking it was a mix of California, the Pacific NW with some East Coast and maybe some newer Europe style development.

I would love to get down there one day.

Very enjoyable photo thread. I visited NZ last year so this is a nice walk down memory lane. The Otago Peninsula outside of Dunedin is really beautiful, and I totally agree with your sentiments regarding Christchurch. It's surprising how much damage you see in Christchurch to this day, but there's definitely a positive energy to the city. Wellington was my favorite urban environment in NZ so looking forward to seeing your photos from there.

Nice photos. Dunedin reminds me a lot of Oakland.
