^To exoand on that, they have narrowed the list of 33 down to 8, which is going to be narrowed down further before the shortlisting is revealed.

I think there was about 8 submissions that were clearly the best, and I figured it would be easy to get down to about 8, then harder to eliminate submissions down further.

My Guess onthe 8 - in no particular order ( not neccessarily my top picks)

Infinity engineering
Busby Perkins Will
Arup Kasian
Halcrow yolles - the reach
Reed Jones Christofferson
SPF:a Glide
Rogers Stirk Harbour
Manu Chugh

We're likely never going to know which 8 they've cut down to though. Doesn't sound like they are going to announce it.

Mark Boutin may be one of the eight rather than manu chugh.

I have to guess that there's going to be at least one cable-stayed bridge shortlisted, at least one arch bridge shortlisted, and at least one "other" bridge shortlisted. They may not shortlist both The reach and Arup Kasian, considering the similarities.

I hear the final short list won't be decided for another couple of weeks (edit: CMLC website indicates November 16). There's a lot to consider in the selection. Currently, there's a 'long list' of 8 submissions the have narrowed it down to.

I'm gonna predict a short-list of four:

Halcrow Yolles - The reach
SPF - Glide
Arup/Kasian
Rosales (mostly because of their experience)

Back up guess:
Rogers Stirk Harbour

because they were awarded, or at least nominated for, the mayors urban design awards, i would bet that the cohos evamy entry is among the finalists.

i just heard that only 3 will be shortlisted...too bad-some projects probably should have gone onto the next phase and would have improved through the DD phase

The trade off though is that each project will have more money to refine their concepts.

true, but the initial idea, if i recall, was there would be five teams who would get 50K each for the phase two...i guess they ran low on money though!

If there are only 3 that they believe truly fit the concept and have a shot, there's no reason to string anyone else along. Obviously you want everyone good to have chance, but at some point you have to make some hard decisions to keep things moving.

I just hope it's the right 3! I actually still have no idea who I myself would pick.

There are I am sure a lot of factors that are going into the decision beyond simply what looked the coolest in the concept drawings: Things like buildability, experience of the team, cost, interaction with the island, aesthetic quality, long term maintenance considerations etc.

I'm sure the Peace Bridge budget story is just want CMLC wanted today. Jeez, did that hack Jason Markusoff plan it this way to release the story on the same day? He seems on a personal mission, I wouldn't put it past him.

Yup, great timing indeed.

Anyone else getting tired of how everything that is proposed in this city gets watered down? Plan-It, the pesticide bylaw, it just goes on and on.

I doubt anyone had those 3 pegged as the finalists, that's for sure. Looks like we're going the conservative route again....would've been nice to try something a little unique.

I'm having trouble being inspired by any of them really, but the only one I dislike is RFR.
