ALOT ^^^ (i can't be exact)

Just came back from my voyage to Yorkville but was stumped to find the sun had gone down by the time i got there

Here's some pics i took earlier today of Uptown and Crystal (which by the way are very tall and noticeable now!)...
*The pictures turned out fuzzy cause it was dark i think...

Uptown i have to say is lookin pretty good for the most part... the blue glass is really shiny!

All photos by me: steveve

Enjoy!

I made this video tonight (its kinda dark though):

Today casaguy over at UT provided us with some seriously EPIC photos!

***There's no Crystal Blu thread but since they're so close to eachother they're still all really cool!

(He took these from Casa!)

the area looks SO different from above!... These projects look wicked cool from Casa!

Crystals mechanical box looks really interesting! Like a giant slab of concrete!... the workers look like ants compared to it!

I love how huge these towers look! They surround Yonge/Bloor and really dominate, creating that epic effect!

Awesome! I love both of these towers. I hope Uptown's crown looks like it does in the render.

i like this building, but i want to know if the people from toronto is a bit against the desing or the materials on this building as the people from chicago is not liking very much that tall building with an old look alike style...
i have to be clear, i like both buildings, but sometimes i agree with that people about materials or the kitch it could be to try to imitate an old style.. again, i do like very much both buildings... toronto is booming

hey chex, there are the same disagreements in Toronto as in Chicago...many don't like the historic style, and prefer the modern glass look.....

I think the variety is good.......

exactly, variety is good, as i say, we could be against to build old looks in modern times, but not all is about glassy boxes... you can get a nice old design with modern stuff... offcourse there would be people hate the design, but there are going to be more to buy an apartment there... i wish i could have the elysian, 60 floors high, in my city... or this building the uptown... anyways, im a designer and i could disagree with this look in some ways, but there some some cool things on it as well... thanx for the answer yyzer

I agree with variety. I also think amongst each style there is also good and bad. People should really just take each building individually, in my opinion.

There are a couple of new, old style looking buildings in that area that are quite nice. There are also a couple of nice, new, modern looking buildings (like 18 Yorkville, I think) too.

I haven't been in the neighbourhood in a while...over the winter, I guess, but last time I was there, standing right beside it, I thought the base of the Chrystal Blu building was quite ugly. The strange missing chunks of concrete with blue crystal behind it looked incredibly tacky to me.

To me, it's something that seemed like a cool idea to someone....for some reason, but in reality just looks odd and phony.

Whatever, I still love the density and look forward to further developments in the area.

I also will start taking some pictures to add to the forum....why not, eh?

How do I post pictures? I was going to show a couple pictures to explain exactly what I was talking about in regards to Chrystal Blu. I also took a few of X and I was going to post them there.

Can anybody out there help me out?

^^ You need to save your photos on a site like photobucket, flickr, on your computer, or find other people's photos online. (If you use someone else's photo, always credit them below the photo). Then you need to 'copy' and 'paste' it here with after it. If you quote one of the posts with a pic posted, you'll see how it's done by looking at the code.

I'm another who believes that variety is the right way to go for a city like Toronto. There will always be people who have different tastes. The important thing, whether a design is modern or inspired from a past architecture, is the execution.

Quality materials and attention to detail are crucial. I love 1930s towers, but they can end up looking very tacky if attention isn't paid to proper proportion, materials choices, design details, quality of construction, and a myriad of other areas.

Uptown looks like it will be a successful attempt at a 1930s inspired building. The majority of attempts aren't very successful.
