So it looks like it has been pushed back a couple of months. No biggie, just glad they have an official groundbreaking month. Plus January isn't that far off.

I wouldn't say that. Demo and site prep could still be on for October with January being the actual construction start.

They do have to demolish an existing building, plus remember that the construction trailers for Seaholm are on this lot too, they may have a lease/contract to be there for a time period. Depends on what they mean by "start" demo/building?

Wow! Incredible animation. The woman on the sofa at about 1:38 appeared to be halfway to hammered, providing a nice touch of realism for the typical Austin lifestyle.

I'm hoping they light the crown at night. I noticed the rendering at night didn't show it, though, I'd imagine they're still designing the lighting scheme.

Great rendering. Although, gotta say I'm pretty concerned that the crown is not lit when it becomes night time.

Don't worry. It will be lit. The tallest building in downtown will have to be lit, if for no other reason, laws and FAA regulations.

Well FAA regulations only say it has to be lit with red warning lights. It doesn't necessarily have to have decorative lighting. I'm pretty sure it'll be lit. It would be crazy not to since it's a point of advertising. Still, though, condo properties are more likely to not be lit since the cost of doing so is spread among the residents of the building since they all own part of it. The W is condos and it has no lights. Spring doesn't either. Apartment buildings are different since the residents don't own it, and so it's owned outright by the property managers who want to light it to advertise it.

It definitely should be lit. I think it'd be a shame not to.

I'm hoping the crown will be opaque and will glow with some sort of color rotation, like on the Monarch. At the very least, made out of reflective material that will pick up the city lights.

Maybe we should start bombarding their Facebook page about their crown?

Go for it. I already brought it up the other day. Maybe we'll get a nice night rendering out of all the nagging with the lit crown shown.

EDIT:

They replied to my nagging.

We're seriously excited to see the progression, Kevin Lehnhardt! The decision on the crown being lit is still in the works, but we really appreciate your opinions on it. We always want to know what the Austinites think.
