This is not an office tower btw.

Which do you think will be the more spectacular view: this tower to the north, or the BofA to the south?....

Yes it is. I wonder if Gary Barnet will push his 57th Street tower to a similar height. Two new peaks there would definitely bring some of the flash back to that part of the skyline.

Holy $hit! That last render is incredible!
I never expected something like this from a lot that small.

Exactly. Having such a huge tower looming so nearby will be awesome.

I vote for this one, because I think it'll appear to be closer and therefore taller... being thinner will also make it look taller.

if you want to discuss whether new york or chicago has the more impressive skyscraper building boom occuring right now, go find another internet message board to join.

if you want to personally insult other forumers because you disagree with their opinions, go find another internet message board to join.

if you want to express your dislike for the current freedom tower design, go express those views in the freedom tower thread.

however, if you want to stay on topic and discuss various aspects of this incredibly interesting and exciting skyscraper proposal from Jean Nouvel, then stay right here .

One of the best new designs in the world in quite some time. A piece of architecture to finally get excited about.

I like this one!

It reminds me of the 181 Freemont proposal in San Fran (but better)

That is an amazing building, with so much energy in it. I love it.

This is, IMO, the most exciting proposal I've seen in years and its not just the design, its the location and how well it fits in with NY. Its completely modern yet gothic and deco at the same time.

I think it just goes to show that its residential that's on the cutting edge of design. The current "group think" and what clients are demanding for new office space simply prohibits this level of design. You just couldn't get a design like for anything other than residential.

That latest rendition makes it look as though the tower will in fact be fully occupied all the way to the tip-top, vs. a Child's FT-like hollow upper third. Is that aspect of the plan still in flux?

But do you like it?

I agree... one very exciting design. Far more so than, for example, than the residential Calatravo proposed for lower Manhattan.

So anyone have any idea as to the likelihood of this getting built?

Man, this thing is looking better and better with each new rendering..

But yes there does seem to be a discrepancy with what the top will be like -- whether it's open framing or occupied space.

it really does look more beautiful with each new rendering. I hope they move forward quickly with this, i'm anxious to see it in the skyline.
