If this keeps up, I may die from excitement...

Now this is a New York skyscraper.

Compare it to the likelihood of the museum staying open.

I guess when i originally saw the Times graphic (besides wetting my pants) I assumed that we were seeing some sort of hollow spire at the top, yet the color rendering clearly shows occupied floors. Are these slightly different designs? What gives?

The entire model is open. Its just a model of the horizontal and vertical floors and beams without a facade. The renderings pretty clearly show what it'll look like with covered with glass.

It's nice, but I'd hardly describe it as "amazing".

It's amazing, i'd hardly describe it as merely "nice".

man, with all the new images continually coming out on this one, i just keep getting more and more pumped about this design. It's great to see a true original skyscraper city like new york blazing new aesthetic trails like this.

I'm anxious to see what a residence in this tower will cost.

Hines Unveils 75-Story Building Design

David Penick, VP of Hines development, tells GlobeSt.com that Hines purchased the site in early 2007 for an undisclosed cost. Currently, a mix of uses is contemplated for the building including: a 50,000-sf expansion of MoMA’s galleries, levels two to five; a 100-room, seven-star hotel and 120 highest-end residential condominiums on the upper floors. The project will likely commence pre-sales in late 2008.

As of now, Penick does not have a projected project cost, however he does note that since it is almost 2008 now, there needs to be at least a year for planning, design and final approvals. Construction should commence in early 2009, he says.

I guess its amazing for me, considering we had no reason to expect anything as spectacular here - in either design or height. This one is truly a gift to the city.
