R@ptor's AMSTERDAM

After my regularly updated threads 'R@ptor's World', 'R@ptor's Shanghai' and 'R@ptor's Germany' it is now time for the fourth installment of the series.

With two 10 months breaks in Shanghai and Taipei in between, Amsterdam has been my hometown since 2007. In those 4 years I've taken thousands of photos all over the city - from places where tourists vastly outnumber the locals to those places even unknown to most residents.

Just lovely. I like the character of the Canal Belt very much, but Amsterdam seems to get modern architecture very well as well, as evidenced by the Zuid-as and the eastern portlands. I'd say it's better overall than Rotterdam's modern architecture and equivalent to Frankfurt's (maybe better?).

Well, this is obviously going to be one of my favorite threads going forward. I love Amsterdam and can't wait to visit again. I look forward to more, Jochen, especially some of those little-known places. I fell in love with it based on the city center alone and would love to see more of the other parts of the city.

Great thread with beautiful pictures!

Amsterdam has got a perfect mix of old and new. What's Nemo by the way? A kind of cultural center?

It's a science museum with a public sun roof on top of it.

wow - interesting. the english and the dutch are linked cultures. the languages sound the same, and much of london looks like a bloated version of the above.

I'm glad Amsterdam preserved it's old (or rebuilt after WWII?) architecture. It's also nice to see the newer buildings blend well with the old. Very nice photos.
