Or to flip that around it's sad that luxury condos envelopes are built to low standards (and then fitted with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances). Social housing seems to set the bar in this case.

A luxury condo should carry some prestige and be built with quality materials and be allowed to shine from the outside as well as inside. What seems to have happened in Vancouver is a bunch of quick buildings by a few developers with high-end appliances.

Tenants from The Continental (whale mural social housing building near Granville Bridge) are being moved to the recently acquired Kingsway Ramada (remaned "The Kingsway Continenatl"). The Continental is "beyond repair" and will be demolished for redevelopment of the Granville Bridge loops.

That's good news that the site will be redeveloped, especially with the trend towards very well designed social housing buildings we've been seeing.

Not sure if it'll be sold to a developer for condos or held by the City and redeveloped for replacement social housing.

Poor whaling walls gradually becoming a legacy. The one in White Rock is still around and well kept, although I am unsure of how long it will last. It is a hallmark of my childhood and marked the centre of town in that city.

It's already at or almost at street level.

From the article:

It says 99 units on the display board and the article says 30 will be for teens.

Why is a city owned building allowed to deteriorate "beyond repair"? Just another example of the short shrift heritage gets in Vancouver. After all, there's money to be made there for some developer by clearing that site and demolishing the Granville loops.

I noticed a few cranes I had never seen before in old Japantown, so I went to take a look.
