That's the MetroMover downtown. It's been there for over 20 years now.

Nice shots colemonkee. The short squat building in the second pic is where the supertall One Brickell CitiCentre tower will eventually rise.

^ Nice updates but it looks like these projects are to the west of the Metrorail tracks?

TRI-Rail station at MIA opens on April 5th.

Tri-Rail station set to open at Miami airport
3/26/2015
Rail News: Passenger Rail

Tri-Rail's new station at the Miami International Airport is scheduled to open April 5, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) announced yesterday.

Part of the Miami Central Station at the Miami Intermodal Center, the Tri-Rail station will provide an immediate connection to the airport via the automated MIA Mover light-rail shuttle, SFRTA officials said.

SFRTA Chair Bruno Barreiro expects the new station to become an international transit hub.

"This is another significant milestone, which is symbolic of our vital role to connect South Florida to the world," he said in a press release.

Trains on the start of the northbound run will experience a slight schedule adjustment as a result of the additional stop, although arrival times for other stations would remain the same as they are now, SFRTA officials said.

The Miami Central Station already serves as a stop for Miami-Dade Transit's Metrorail, with Amtrak and Greyhound expected to join in the future, according to SFRTA.

Finally! I wonder how many US Airports have both a Metro system & Commuter rail system serving their Airports?

Privé developers receive building permit from city of Aventura

Quote:
Privé at Island Estates, a 160-unit luxury development, can begin construction now that developers received their building permit from the city of Aventura.

The twin, 16-story tower development is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2017.
Developers BH3 and Gary Cohen were locked in a battle with homeowners who oppose the development and the installation of sidewalks, and the resulting delay by the city in issuing building permits. During the process, they lost a $140 million construction loan late last year, BH3’s Dan Lebensohn told TRD.

After months of litigation, developers built their sidewalk in March, despite physical intervention from nearby residents.

Privé will include 70,000 square feet of indoor amenity space and will offer outdoor amenities that include two pools, a tennis court, playground, jogging path, fishing pier and marina. Units will range from 2,585 square feet to more than 9,000 square feet. The towers are designed by Sieger Suarez.

Verzasca Group to launch tower on Denny’s site in Sunny Isles Beach

Quote:
The Verzasca Group plans a 19-story luxury tower at the site of a Denny’s on Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach, on the west side of the street that has seen little in new residential projects, The Real Deal has learned.

The planned development, at 17550 Collins, will have 76 units, priced from below $1 million to just under $2 million, said Gennady Barksy, executive chairman of the Verzasca Group. Architect Luis Revuelta of Revuelta Architecture International is designing the project.

The tower marks the third project in the United States for the Russian developers, who plan to invest $700 million on South Florida projects. The group has two developments underway in Bay Harbor Islands, Pearl House and Le Jardin, which are each nearly 50 percent sold, Barksy said.

I read into that sidewalk dispute in Aventura, what a mess with adults acting as big brats over a sidewalk.

Phase one of Southgate Towers’ $40M renovation complete

Quote:
Southgate Towers, a 1960s apartment building in Miami Beach, completed the first phase of its $40 million renovation, ADD Inc. announced recently.
The completed North Tower includes a new facade, 242 redesigned units, a lobby, fitness center with yoga room, and restaurant and retail space, according to a press release.

The two buildings at 900 West Avenue will share a resort-style pool, cabanas, spa pool, waterfront restaurant and bar, and private marina with boat slips.

The second phase is scheduled for completion in December 2015, and includes a new facade and 253 redesigned units. The 14-story towers were built by the late developer Nathan Gumenick, according to the press release. Gumenick Properties owns and manages the development.

ADD Inc., now with Stantec, is also working on the Shore Club renovation and the Berkeley Shore hotel in Miami Beach.

Massive Coral Gables mixed-use project refined; wins preliminary approval

Quote:
After nearly eight hours of discussion, Coral Gables is closer to approving its biggest development project ever.

On first reading Thursday, city commissioners gave preliminary approval to an updated version of the Mediterranean Village project — a controversial mixed-use deal that has developers, politicians and residents on their toes.

Developers will move forward with the project and are set to come back at second reading after city officials asked them to revise some additional concerns.

If passed on second reading, the massive $500 million plan developed by Agave Ponce LLC would include a high-end hotel, 300,000 feet of office space, restaurants, retail establishments and a gym. It’s also slated to include 214 condo units and 15 townhouses.

City officials pushed to have developers scrap the originally proposed cinema and a residential tower, reduce the size to about 1.1 million square feet, and redesign the hotel so that the entrance is on Galiano Street, not on Ponce de Leon Boulevard, derailing major traffic.

The refined plan is about 200,000 square feet less than the original proposal. It was also reduced by in height from 218 feet of habitable space to 190, meeting the city’s code.

The mixed-use venture would rise on the former Old Spanish Village site on Ponce Circle, just a few blocks south of Miracle Mile.
