The most miserable experiences with humidity I've ever endured wasn't Texas, Florida or even Central America but DC. Summers are god awful there.

Mine was in Dubai coming out of the airport and entering the partially enclosed garage area and (and this is TOPS) when I visited Houston a few years back. I'll never in my life forget getting out of my car in the garage at the Galleria Mall... I swear there was water dripping everywhere from the excess moisture. It was insane.

^I used to stupidly think that because it was [a/several] desert[s], the Middle East didn't suffer from humidity. Never been, but apparently I was very, very wrong.

For me, Miami was the worst. Air so thick you could drink it.

The few times I've gone back to Ohio between April and October weren't much better.

Oddly enough, my gf and I really lucked out with the weather during our visit to Houston. I was pleasantly surprised despite fearing the worst.

well, the problem with travel experiences is that they are one-off.

when we look at the actual data compiled over 100+ years of weather record keeping, it's easy to see that, on average, houston has significantly hotter and more humid summers than DC.

average high temp:

city ------ jun --- jul --- aug

houston - 91.4 - 93.7 - 94.5

D.C. ----- 84.2 - 88.4 - 86.5

average relative humidity (%):

city ------ jun --- jul --- aug

houston - 74.6 - 74.4 - 75.1

D.C. ----- 65.8 - 66.9 - 69.3

It's bad in DC, but Jacksonville was the worst for me. It was so bad I never wanted to return to Florida. It was the most intense heat I've felt by a long shot. I don't know people deal with it, tbh. And I was on the beach too, btw.

^ my worst humidity experience was relatively recent. we took the kiddos down to disney world back in sept.

temps were "only" in the mid-90s, but the dew point peaked at 80 MOTHERFUCKING degrees each of the 4 days we were there.

it kinda ruined the whole trip for me as i'm extremely sensitive to high heat and humidity like that.

i was frequently repeating phrases like "i'm never coming back to florida for as long as i live."

It's def the dew point.
When people say they don't mind oppressive humidity I look at them like

DC has the worst of both worlds, definitely the worst weather in the country.

Actually, if I had to pick a poison, I'll take the oppressive humidity over the Siberian cold the Upper Midwest sees in the winter.

i'm the opposite.

i can gear-up for cold weather and be fine.

and being a year-round bike commuter in chicago for the past 11 years has given me ample experience doing so.

but with an 80 MOTHERFUCKING DEGREE dewpoint, there ain't shit i can do about that except contemplate suicide.

there's no gear that can make an 80+ degree dew point tolerable for me. it feels like pure suffocating death.

I've been to DC/MD/NoVA and the Delmarva peninsula a number of times and in the summer months, it was unbearable. On paper, we may be worse but from my experiences, it was DC...

What is the humidity reading when the fog rolls in and your clothes get damp because you’re actually in a cloud?

You've never been to Texas, ever?

I'm not disputing your personal experiences, but as the old saying goes, the plural of anecdote is not data.

Houston has a significantly hotter and more humid climate than DC, and most other US cities for that matter.

Personally, my favorite days are when it’s hot. Over 80. Love it.
