In that case, St. John's will likely have 4 highrises under construction in the spring, all pretty much on the same block downtown! But 2 is good for now

That list looks out of date....some of the Vancouver forumers would be able to verify.

The list is slowly coming up to the SSP guidelines but it still needs some work. For 12+ stories under construction goes from crane installation - foundation - frame - exterior. Once it is first occupied it moves to recently completed.

Looking at the list I count 15 high-rises under construction in HRM + 3 Excavations (Nova Centre) + 1 Crane Waiting (Citadel Hotel Apartment) + 1 Major Expansion waiting for crane (TD Tower). As for cranes I believe;

- Citadel Hotel North & South Towers
- Saint Lawrence Place Residential
- Craigmore
- Abigail I - II
- Grand Haven Heights I - IV (unsure how many cranes on site at least one though)
- The Hazleton

So that would make 8-11 high-rise projects with cranes in HRM.

I'm familiar with about 2/3rds of the buildings on the list and of those I can safely say that the cranes are down on the following 12;

Star Tower
One Valhalla - Structure 1
Four Seasons Hotel and Residences - East Structure
The Florian
Parade - Tower 4
Hospital For Sick Children Research Institute
South Beach Condos and Lofts 2

And these buildings are largely occupied, if not entirely;
California Condos
Nautilus at Waterview
Parade - Structure 3
Parc Nuvo
South Beach Condos and Lofts 1

There is also District Griffin phase 2 that is under construction (different project than District Griffin).

Also note Deepstar that there are a few projects listed by Philippe that have more than one tower. District Griffin, CHUM and Alta all have two towers U/C with a crane.

So for now, it's a total of 25 for Montreal (city).

Should be adding three more in the next few months with Ultima (32) Jasper Hilton (16) and Beth Shalom (22)
Don't forget stuff going out in the burbs, for example the signature makes this list - barely - at 12 floors.

Vancouver is still being worked on however, the rest of the metro (and country for the most part) has being updated using numerous sources. I can't imagine the locals finding too many changes in the GVRD.

Cranes and cranes bases would be a full time project in a city like Toronto with dozens of projects spread out to every corner of the city. The one with the most cranes would be the new Humber River Regional Hospital with eight cranes.

That list seems pretty current to me. 67 projects UC is about right. Everything on it is either in the beginning, middle or ending stages of construction. There's a bunch more about to go online as well. Watch out for Burnaby.

As Metro-One mentioned, Metro Vancouver has a ton of construction going on. Easily second to Toronto. The reason many people outside of Vancouver don't know this is because most of the Vancouver forumers on SSP rarely post outside of Local: Vancouver. You almost never see any Vancouver updates on the Canada Construction threads, but you'll see weekly updates in the Local forum.

winnipeg actually has 4.

Canad Inns HSC Hotel
CMHR
Heritage Landing
Alt Hotel.

Glasshouse Condo as well i suppose.

i'm not sure why the presence of a crane is the definition of under construction.....occupancy is the benchmark for the completion of the construction phase...technically it is when the building receives an occupancy permit.
The crane can be gone from a site half way through construction, as with the CMHR....it will be under construction for two years without a crane.

Wow. People are really loving the condos. This is a great time for Canadian Cities and their urban districts. The density is nice to see.

That number is about the skyrocket though, there are far more projects in the excavation phase than nearing completion in Metro vancouver. Major sites that quickly come to mind are Bentall 6, the Telus towers (2), Marine Gateway towers (3), Station Square Phase one and Solo District phase one (among many more).

In Vancouver this week. Went for drive today from DT to Surrey - over the new Port Mann WOW! - starting to look a little like Seattle's I-5 through there...to PC/New West/Burnaby and Richmond - outside of the core I lost count at 40 or so and noticed lots of holes/excavations without cranes yet.

Lots in the core it seems too. So 67 is a respectable, if maybe a bit conservative number.
