Why is that?

TCH (Autoroute Transcanadienne) crosses St Lawrence River at Pont-Tunnel Lafontaine and one would think that that'd be under federal jurisdiction instead.

I think any bridge going over the seaway is under federal jurisdiction.

They added extra lights these past few years to guide trucks

Aside from being the country's busiest bridge, the federal gvt considers the Champlain bridge to be a vital piece of national infrastructure as it serves vital overland shipping routes between Canada and the USA. And as mentioned above the bridge also traverses another vital piece of infrastructure: the seaway.

That's true. It carries both 10 (which leads to 35 and 55) and 15, which leads to the border crossing. Alright thanks.

Now would be a great time for the feds to invest in bridges to help support our steal workers and iron miners as we ride out the Trump years.

I was thinking the same too.

Twinning TCH where there are only 2 lanes and removing all at-grade traffic-light intersections with overpasses or interchanges comes to mind. (Imagine a 5136-km 4-lane freeway throughout Canada, longer than I-90 which is the longest US interstate.)

Then there's the extension (prolongement) of QC 138. (Was the area that it is slated to traverse hit by an asteroid back in the days??)

Immediately I see 1000 bridges right there.

Canada in general simply needs to stop being averse to infrastructural improvement. I'm saying this because there seems to have been so many missed good opportunities for this.

Its not bad but it would be nice if they just repaired the old one. In Toronto the Queen Street bridge was rehabilitated about a decade ago or so and the 108 year old bridge never looked better.

^ I actually guessed what bridge this was without looking at your username or clicking the link. Samuel De Champlain bridge. I lived in Chateauguy in the mid to late 70s as a kid and remember crossing that bridge a bunch of times. Jacques Cartier is another I remember. Thanks for the picture for it brought back memories. @Martin Mtl

Right?! There is no way, I think China is the only place where that time frame might be feasible.

technically they don't need to finish the bridge completely. The bridge only needs to be open to traffic. They can complete the rest of the work later.

Name the only city in North America with a bridge designed by the same guy who designed the collapsed bridge in Italy.
