Found this website, it offers what the building looks like inside.

http://hollywoodlocations.com/us-ban...eles-ca-90017/

Some of the building looks a bit dated. I sometimes forget it was built in the 80's.

I like the color of the building. Really makes it stand out in a positive way and the windows are the right size. Everything is just so right about this one. It deserves an A+.

I think we are also getting one at the taller Millennium tower in Hollywood.
I happened to run into this thread and thought I'd throw this tidbit from a few weeks ago about the adaptive reuse of the US Bank Tower for Hotel/Office/Observation Deck.

^Brigham was actually interviewed by Channel 4 and it was on the 6 o'clock news today about this story. It would be a great building for a deck.

Hopefully they will take down that hideous US Bank sign on the crown and leave it signless for good.

This would be so cool if they can make the observation deck happen. First the Wilshire Grand then this.

About time!

West Coast's Tallest Tower finally getting Sky High View
Quote:

Finally: the owners of the 72-story US Bank Tower, the tallest building on the West Coast (for now), will open up a public viewing deck like a real Empire-State-building-style tourist trap. Maybe next they'll light the Hollywood Sign! The 1989 building, formerly known as the Library Tower, will stay an office building, but get a new observation area on the sixty-ninth and seventieth floors, which will be connected by a new stairway; existing terraces on the sixty-ninth will be opened up as well, reports the LA Times. Meanwhile, the seventy-first floor, which has 18-foot ceilings and 360-degree views of Los Angeles, will get a new restaurant.

US Bank visitors will enter through a new second-floor portal with upgraded elevators and newish owners Overseas Union Enterprise Ltd. will also give the US Bank sign a "modernization" and add a curb cut at the Fifth Street entrance for passenger loading and unloading. Local mega-firm Gensler will design all of the changes.

Tourist traps do not come cheap: OUE will charge $25 a head, but thinks it can pull in half a million visitors a year. Broker/blogger Brigham Yen found that pricing is in the range for similar attractions: Chicago's Willis Tower costs $19, the Empire State Building is $29 to the eighty-sixth floor.

Not too far away from the US Bank building, however, the Wilshire Grand hotel/office building is under construction and set to be the new tallest tower in the West when it's finished in 2017. It will have an observation deck, infinity pool, and restaurant on its roof, which according to Yen will still be lower than the US Bank Tower's new deck.

What is currently on the 72nd floor, i.e. that floor with windows going all the way around? That looks perfect for something observation/restaurant/bar related.

The logo ruins the building's crown. It's incredibly tacky, akin to the "Trump" sign on the Chicago tower. I wish the wealthy interests in this country at least had better taste.

When will the Library Tower observation deck open? It is already in the ranking list of observation decks by height on wikipedia but I assume it is not open yet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observation_deck

U.S. Bank Tower owner plans to build a rooftop observatory for tourists
Quote:
By Roger Vincent

The owner of U.S. Bank Tower in downtown Los Angeles — the tallest skyscraper in the West — is building an outdoor observation deck, bar and restaurant on the top floors, part of a $50-million makeover of the 72-story building.

Built in the late 1980s as an exclusive corporate cathedral, the round, crown-topped tower faces fresh competition for tenants from recently renovated historic buildings popular with young Internet companies and other creative businesses. Beyond keeping the building competitive, OUE aims to profit by charging tourists admission.

Dubbed Skyspace L.A., the rooftop complex will be one of only a handful of such high-altitude visitor venues in the country. It will be operated by the firm that runs the observatory at the new One World Trade Center building in New York.

Admission will cost $25. A trip to the top of Willis Tower in Chicago costs $19.50 — or $45 for a "fast pass" to cut waiting time. At One World Trade Center in New York, a standard admission is $32, and "VIP expedited" entry costs $54.

So why didn't the original owners include public spaces at the top when it was built?

The developers were focused on serving elite corporate clients, who may or may not have favored sharing the top of the building with tourists.

"It never occurred to us that it was viable, because we were focused on our rent-paying tenants," said Nelson Rising, who was in charge of developing the property for original owners Maguire Thomas Partners.

The sky-high restaurant on the 71st floor will be called 71Above and be operated by Los Angeles chef Vartan Abgaryan, currently executive chef at Cliff's Edge restaurant in Silver Lake. It is set to open in the first quarter of next year. The 72nd floor will continue to be leased to office tenants.

The observation decks, along with space that can be rented for special events including weddings, will incorporate floors 69 and 70. .

The company plans to open the observation deck by the middle of next year and keep it open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Visitors will enter Skyspace L.A. through a new entrance to the building off of a flight of stairs on the west side that were designed to evoke the monumental Spanish Steps in Rome. A coffee bar will be eliminated to create the entrance and make room for ticketing operations and a souvenir shop. The building's elevators have been upgraded to help move passengers more efficiently.

OUE will have high-altitude company downtown in the 73-story-tall Wilshire Grand hotel and office building set for completion in 2017. Its 70th floor will have an outdoor bar and observation deck.

OUE will also make substantial improvements to the lower public floors of U.S. Bank Tower. The McCormick & Schmick's restaurant that had been a fixture since the building opened in 1989 has been closed to make way for Monkee, a Cantonese restaurant set to open by the end of this year.

Another noteworthy change will take place on the first floor, where OUE will fill a wall of the lobby with a video screen 126 feet wide by 17 feet high. OUE will show images intended to entice passersby to come in.

"The content will capture the essence of L.A.; the people, the scenery, the celebrity," OUE's Rumantir said. "We are selling L.A."

The makeover of downtown Los Angeles' U.S. Bank Tower is to include a sky-high observation deck and restaurant offering 360-degree views of the city, the mountains and the ocean.

It's about time, with the massive terraces the building has, an observation deck is a no-brainer.

US Bank Tower is really stepping up its game these days. Between the new owners wanting their building to meet its full potential, you cant help loving the idea that its basically sayin, "you want a piece of me..eh?!?" to the Wilshire Grand tower. Two competing skidecks on the two tallest buildings after decades of nothing. WTC vs Empire State, John Hancock vs Sears...now US Bank vs Wilshire G. Love it.
The two are the King and Queen of the skyline. Stoked!

It is cool how we will have those 2 locations to see the view between 800' and 950' Until now the 35th floor restaurant at the Bonaventure Hotel and the restaurant on the 32nd top floor of the Transamerica Center and Finally the observation deck at the 32 story city Hall have been the highest locations with public views between 350' and 400' The US Bank will even be above the Stratosphere Hotels outside deck at 872' in Vegas
