Speaking of great Canadian punk bands, here’s DOA followed by a short interview with Henry Rollins where he talks about DOA's influence on his music career.

All three of these bands are from Vancouver, btw, which was and probably still is the centre of the punk world in Canada.

Erm...that would be Toronto, though Vancouver has produced some great punk bands and definitely had the second-best punk scene in Canada.

Interesting opinion. Which Toronto bands do you have in mind?

Here's a song that everyone on this forum should be able to relate to (the lyrics, anyway, if not the music itself). It's a song about feeling isolation, boredom, and conformity that teenagers go through in the suburbs. Plus the video was shot in Toronto:

http://youtu.be/Lu9Ycq64Gy4

Rush - "Subdivisions"

Sprawling on the fringes of the city
In geometric order
An insulated border
In between the bright lights
And the far unlit unknown

Growing up it all seems so one-sided
Opinions all provided
The future pre-decided
Detached and subdivided
In the mass production zone

Nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone

Subdivisions --
In the high school halls
In the shopping malls
Conform or be cast out
Subdivisions --
In the basement bars
In the backs of cars
Be cool or be cast out
Any escape might help to smooth
The unattractive truth
But the suburbs have no charms to soothe
The restless dreams of youth

Drawn like moths we drift into the city
The timeless old attraction
Cruising for the action
Lit up like a firefly
Just to feel the living night

Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight

Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights...

I’m not following what you’re argument. Apart from the fact that that article was clearly written by someone most familiar with the Toronto punk scene, and that it doesn’t represent a balanced view of the Canadian scene, there’s nothing there that claims that Toronto was or is the most important scene. Is that an opinion that you’ve formed from just this one article? If so then you should be careful about relying too heavily on user generated articles in Wikipedia.

Here’s another legendary Vancouver punk/post-punk band, and possibly the first grunge band even before Nirvana? Hugh Dillon thinks so.

Guys, lets keep the name calling and personal attacks out of this. They aren't allowed.

[QUOTE=Allan83;5934682]They were one of Canada’s big breakout bands this year. Now from Montreal but originally from Edmonton.

I like these threads. For those who like new music, here are the top two most critically acclaimed Canadian albums of the year.
Grimes, from Montreal originally from Vancouver.

I caught Grimes opening for Lykke Li at Metropolis last year. She's so tiny! Complete one-woman show. MESMERIZING!

Couple of tunes I shot:

One of my favourite new bands, Monogrenade. Great bunch of dudes (and one really cute dudette) I caught their album release at Casa del Popolo:

I absolutely adore Annie-Claude Dufresne of Duchess Says. She plays hard-ass, no holds barred, completely fucked punk/noize and absolutely grips the audience with her crazy eyes and hand gestures. Yet I met her at a warehouse after-thingy and she's so quiet and shy in real life, you have to goad her into conversation.
