Are you joking? It’s a pretty subtle facade, in fact it’s almost as subtle as you can go without just putting up a plain glass box. If you wanna see a facade that belongs in Vegas there are some chain hotels in the Garment District I’d like to show you...

It's a very cheap and uninspired trick for such a large and visible building - two solid walls of uninterrupted studded glass, paired with two solid walls of Trumpian metallic-tinted windows. NYC deserves better.

I mean it’s not the Chrysler Building, but it’s nowhere near as bad as some of Trump’s stuff. Extell (the developer of this tower) may not always go for cutting-edge design but they usually manage to deliver an overall high-quality building. They did at least go to the extra expense of varying the glasswork and they didn’t leave any bare concrete walls or exposed mechanicals on the roof like some other developers would be content to do. Plus it’s in a location that, although it’s visually prominent, isn’t nearly as high-end as 57th Street for example. So even if it’s not the most stellar design, I’m going to give them credit for carrying it out pretty well.

Though I genuinely didn’t realize until now that the metallic-tinted parts were glass. I thought they were actually some kind of metal panels to hide blank walls. I’m slightly disappointed by that.

(As a sidenote btw, I do wish NYC had some kind of design standards for prominent sites like this as opposed to just trying to regulate the height of new buildings. There definitely are some places where the city “deserves” better design than it gets—i just don’t know if this is necesarily such a bad one though.)

Great shots mrnyc. The ferry, on a side note, is a great way to have an ice sightseeing tour, yet relax at the same time.

I think I paid like $40 for a 3 hour cruise around the island via Circle Line.

But anyways, would recommend it to any visitors.

Its overdue on my part, as last time I did such a cruise, was 3 years ago.

Sorry for off topic, but is this a Manhattan or Jersey ferry? I am planning to make my way back to NYC, since it's been 6 years now

Manhattan based. Circle Line, would recommend it. You can get on one near the Chinese embassy all the way at the end of 42nd Street facing the Hudson River.

Its also where cruises depart as well. North of Javitz Center.

Hmmm I was liking this until they put that massive red logo on it. Now it looks like some evil villains lair lol, but not in a cool way (that goes 53w53).
