No... why would they do that? The steel holds up the vegetation because it can't naturally support itself in that shape. The steel is basically just a rust-belt Modernist version of a pergola.
I personally like the steel as it is - if you see it in person, you can tell that it has a high-quality finish, and it's meant to be exposed to the elements for years.
