I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. My new place has a pretty good view of the hole for that block.

No problem! I'll be sure to send regular updates for this and the Alexan.

It looks like the crane footings are in. Is that what the square is in the middle of the block? New since yesterday.

that would make sense to me since it's in the center courtyard of the U shaped building

small mention of Block 49: The Tamarack

Portland seeks housing for homeless vets
by Stephen Beaven, The Oregonian

...And an affordable housing project proposed for South Waterfront that was supposed to include 42 apartments for veterans has been plagued by rising construction costs and other problems....

all or much of the dirt that was excavated from the Mirabella ended up on block 27. I suspect they planted grass just to tidy up the area, and minimize erosion and summer dust, since development on this site is probably years away now, unfortunately.

I also wonder if they'll open this new grassy area up for dog owners once they start construction of South Waterfront Neighborhood Park?

Me too! We love living down there. The park and waterfront path are great for the dog too and he has lots of other dogs to play with. It seems really sterile and dead when you drive by on I-5 but there really are a lot of people living down in SoWa. You can't beat living next to the river! I don't think I'll ever go back to the Pearl. :-)

that's great to hear. Should just get better and better every month as more people move in, the park gets built, and buildings keep rising up!

Towards the end of this article, there is mention of Block 49 -- apparently it is included in the infrastructure funding request Portland sent in to the Feds. May not get passed by the lame ducks, but probably will early in the new year. It also includes funding for the Homeless Access Center on Broadway. All-around good news for two worthy projects.
