That's a great shot. What's that area on the left between the bridges? I envision a warehouse district with lofts, breweries, etc.

That area is solid industrial, to the left of the river. the city has a water treatment and intake facility by the railroad bridge, a few barge-related industries, including a sand and sediment shipper, and also a Tennessee Central Railway lot and museum.

To the right, Shelby Park and also residential that abruptly transitions to light industrial and at least one brewery warehouse.

The Trolley Barn Project on City owned land in SoBro should break ground on at least one building soon per the TENNESSEAN.

With the announcement by Amazon that they will be building a second headquarters, equal in size to their Seattle headquarters, in another city, there has been and will be a lot of postings about why 'my city' should get the prize. Well, I will go ahead and make a case for a location in Nashville that would suit such a large project fairly easily.

A Chicago based developer has acquired a large collection of properties less than a mile from downtown. The initial concept renderings above indicate that a large high rise development is very doable. The slightly remote location is not as disadvantages as it may seem on the surface as many means of access are already in the works or could easily be added, including a pedestrian bridge across the river to the Germantown neighborhood. As shown in this map.....

That would only check one box, however. Yes, we're still a long shot. I know.

This is the 5th+Commerce development as described in this card. Demolition on the old convention center site is well underway and would expect construction to begin by the end of the year on all buildings.

As the 45 story, 526 ft. tall '505' residential building in the downtown district of Nashville approaches opening, the developer has announced he will convert 193 units in the building to condo's.

Metro Nashville has released renderings of version 2.0 of The Gulch Pedestrian Bridge connecting the up and coming SoBro District to the up and coming Gulch District over the CSX rail yards. From the Nashville Post.

It will be a nice way to expand tourist and conventioneers options as to hotels and restaurants. The design is rather 'pedestrian'

but came about as a less expensive alternative to a stayed cable bridge which was first proposed.

Indeed ground was broken yesterday as Sir Richard regaled Nashville with tales of living in Nashville back in his in his younger musician days and witnessing the great Roy Orbison cut his last album.

The design is pedestrian, however, with creative lighting it can stand out at night in particular. Just like the KVB bridge. I hope both the arched structure and the cabling will have lights. If not it will be just another pedestrian walkway bridge.

That walk-up on the SoBro side should be treated like a plaza. Instead of having a mass of concrete it should be given a grid pattern with LED ligthing embedded in the grid that moves and changes color. That wall next to the steps should have SoBro on it in lights that cycle through color changes.

Vanderbilt has decided NOT to share a stadium with any Nashville Soccer team, MLS or otherwise per the Tennessean.

Vandy will continue to play in it's on-campus stadium although no plans for improvements, expansion/contraction or construction of a completely new stadium on campus have been revealed. The team may play a couple of games in the soccer stadium each year, per reports. The investors behind the application for an MLS franchise were hoping for an additional revenue stream from Vandy games to help retire future bonds used to pay for the stadium. The investors indicated the loss of Vanderbilt doesn't affect the strength of the bid.

I, myself, am a little surprised at Vanderbilt's decision. All indications had been that they were in. But there was a lot of blowback from the proposal and I suppose the Vandy administration heard it and reconsidered. I would now suggest major upgrades to amenities in the existing stadium with first class concessions and other services would be the best option. It would certainly take some clever design to fit all this in to the extremely tight footprint the current stadium occupies.

Now, I suppose the proposed MLS stadium will be reduced in size from 33,000+ to about 20,000 which is more in line with the rest of the league.

Nashville Int'l (BNA) revealed full plans to overhaul the airport and update the late 1980s terminal with multiple pieces. An absolute overhaul of the security checkpoint and expansion to 20 lanes. The renovation and reopening of Concourse D, which used to be the American Eagle concourse during AA's hub days. The construction of a int'l arrivals/departures area in front (tarmac-side) of what is the current security area. Expansion and overhaul of the current short-term garage and addition of an on-site hotel, which the flag should be announced in December per latest release.

Awesome upgrades.

BNA will never be a top 20 airport by volume, but will be a popular destination, departure point and transfer option with all the comfort, quick service and access options they are adding. And with the addition of international flights (British Airways to London this spring), it should suit the needs of any large Fortune 500 or even 50 that would want to relocate or expand in Nashville.

ESPN reporter reports Nashville to get MLS franchise...

The Mayor denies it saying the official announcement will come in December. Then the reporter qualifies his announcement.....

So the odds are looking real good right now, but gotta wait til Christmas to open the present even if you're sure it's what you asked for!!!

Also, regarding funding...

The City will issue $200 million in bonds for which the team will payoff through leasing.
Sounds like it will be a City owned stadium.
The owners will pitch in $25 million.
The City will provide $25 million of infrastructure necessities.
At $250 million, it sounds like a 30,000 seat stadium.

EDIT: The stadium will have 27,500 seats, still larger than most proposed and current stadiums. Apparently, the owners will be looking at other revenue streams such as concerts.

Only 59 days til MLS Christmas!!!!
