MINNEAPOLIS | 116 East Hennepin | 29 floors | 300 feet~

Nye's owner, developer plan to save oldest portions of restaurant

Quote:
The two century-plus buildings in Minneapolis will be moved together, anchoring a retail development beside a new, 29-story apartment tower.

A three-story building with a “Harness Shop” sign atop it and a two-story one that curves around a corner, both more than 100 years old, will be preserved, Ron Jacobs, the owner of Nye’s, and representatives Schafer Richardson, the developer working with him, said at a meeting with neighborhood residents and business owners.

The group plans to move the two buildings together and build other retail and restaurants around them and the new apartment tower. For the time being, the project is being called 116 East Hennepin, for its address just across the Mississippi River from downtown.

Minneapolis | 116 E. Hennepin | 302 feet | 29 FLOORS

Preliminary plans released today for this site in NE Mpls. There are concerns over its proximity to the oldest church in the city...Our Lady of Lourdes, which dates to the 1850s. The project also preserves 2 other historic buildings on the block.

Nice how it preserves the existing buildings. Wish more projects were like that.

Yeah, preserving those two buildings at the corner is a nice touch.

Looks kind of "stubby" for 30 floors! OK for the area though.

NMBY's have succeeded in delaying this for 4-5 months.

They don't seem all that NIMBY. It seems more like they just don't want the developers to half-ass the project.

The issue had nothing to do with height.

We just need Western Wisconsin, or a smaller MN city to build a monster, then the gloves will come off
