nice
Birmingham has become the positive story in development lately.
Not sure about the color scheme on this project though, kind of reminds me of suburban California.

The Architects are Atlanta firm SWSS. The design is very Atlanta to me - it looks very similar to a lot of what is being built over here lately, and not just by this firm.

The accent on the tower seems a bit contrived to me. I get that they are trying to make a statement on Highland but it reminds me of the residential tower near UAB that has the unusual beams at the top. I'm not sure if it is necessary.

yeah, i think the lower residential portion looks MUCH better than the tall part. that structure at the top is a little peculiar. of course, this won't be the last time the design review committee sees it. will be interesting to see what the final product looks like..

looks like the ground floor of the 29 Seven development in lakeview is finally filling up. poor jimmy john's has been all by itself for a while. the gastropub on the corner was delayed, but is back on track. and a new restaurant out of jackson, ms (babalu tacos & tapas) will be joining them as well:

Lakeview's 29 Seven shakes up restaurant lineup

The new U.S. Treasury building on 8th Avenue (aka Abraham Woods Blvd) and 14th Street North is finally under construction. It will be 3 stories 87,000 square feet, and cost $30 million. It is just across 14th Street N. from the new Social Security Building.

Finally found some renderings. Not a fan, to be honest. Reminds me of dismal 60s architecture; something that would be outdated as soon as it's built (think BOE building, Denmark Embassy in DC, etc). Either way, happy to see that site developed.

Yes you are right, I should have known by those precast walls that it would not be anything remarkable. But it looks like it will have nice landscaping.

Ha. Better than nothing, I suppose. Landscaping for the reluctant win.

Yes you are right again, because at the end of the day, it is all about bringing JOBS and DOLLARS downtown!!!
I also understand the building cost $19 million and the furnishings and equipment cost another $11 million. HMMMM!

in general agreement with you guys. nice investment and glad for new construction downtown, but pretty bland and unremarkable.

wow that says Huntsville architecture all over it. C'mon Bham say no to lazy architecture!
Probably will be nice on the inside, but outside would be right at home in an industrial park.

We still have a 60 to 70,000 sf VA clinic to design, and it will be dwarfed by a huge 2000+ parking deck.

Thanks. They were just posted this week according to Google Images. But, then again, if I were constructing a building that unimaginable, I'd try to hide them too.

I am bland and unremarkable and I live near downtown, I wish I could be worth $46 million. But it is government work.
