Hard to make out, but it should be behind that blank wall.

I love how it meets up with the adjacent buildings when viewed from the street.

What's the story behind the black color being sprayed on? I assume that has to be maintained so why didn't they just leave it the natural color?

While I love this building, I still can't get over the fact that it was supposed to be 1,250 ft.

Once all the supertalls are built near Central Park, this will just be a tree in the forest. Damn NIMBYs.

If that's the case, I hope it enjoys the same kind of visual impact that Lady Chrysler has had since her topping out 83 years ago.

Form almost every perspective, she enjoys a certain kind of isolation from the rest of th pack that seems fitting. I hope this tower has the same fortune. A flashy neighbor too close by would be a shameful distraction.

I have a feeling this tower will draw the eye like the ESB. You may find yourself in this visual phenomena of selective consciousness. What I mean is that I bet when most look at the skyline, the first thing that they notice is the ESB. Regardless of a taller tower nearby, the ESB captures the eye more I feel out of all of the towers. Same with this. Its the test of a true design's aesthetic merit.

Chrysler, 1 WTC are ones I feel share this attribute. 1 Vanderbilt might take the cake.

Well...not to wander too far afield; but ESB also has going for her the idea of cultural iconicity, hence an additional noticeability factor, obviously.

Had this tower been approved as originally proposed, we would have seen that notion re-birthed.

Edit: And yes...1V is poised to do precisely as I just suggested^^^.

This tower will be a cultural icon, not only because of it's great design, but location is well. It's MOMA's place on the skyline.

Not to complain...because I like the street-view contrast...
...But why is TV/53W53 practically glued to the highrise next to it?
Is it due to MOMA's own placement? A zoning quirk?

It's a very small and tight site. The floorplates would be smaller than they already are if it weren't for utilization of the entire lot. Also, there are certain zoning regulations that go into play.
