Thanks for posting that. I heard about this yesterday then promptly forgot which restaurant was closing and it has been bugging me all day.

Yep, taking over the former The House Coffee Sanctuary space.

The rooftop patio at charbar is nice with decent grill food and mixers. So much gin in my mojito.

Side note: Anyone finding restaurants dropping off of OpenTable? Also, I'm digging the social aspect Zomato is trying to do. Didn't know that existed till yesterday lol.

The people from Anejo will be opening a new Tex-mex place in the former Brava spot. When I saw the renos last week, it looked pretty close to being done, maybe another 6 weeks until they're completely ready to open.

(I know the closing of Brava and eventual redevelopment of the site was mentioned, but I don't know if any specifics for the new resto were mentioned.)

Also, there's a new concept coming to the Candella space on 4th. For whatever reason, Candella never seemed to be very busy after the initial opening rush. Apparently, they sunk $2MM into the space - ouch! - so that might have something to do with the spot they've found themselves in.

-The Arby's on 16th Avenue NW across from SAIT has been gutted. I know that there was mention earlier in this thread of a Carl's Junior or something like that going in? Also on the site directly across 11th Street is fenced off, the site has been cleared and there is an excavator ready to work.

New churrasco place at 10th St and 12th Ave SW. There are dozens of these in Toronto; the only one I can think of in Calgary is Nando's. (removed overly huge image- it's called Papito's and it's at 1040 12 Ave SW)

A bit off topic, but how are you guys finding the new Zomato app?

I think it's a downgrade from Urbanspoon, but I'm curious to see other opinions. Is Yelp a better option?

Only used it once so maybe I'm just not used to it but I agree, it's a definite downgrade from Urban Spoon.

I totally agree also. I've started using Yelp more but it doesn't seem to be well used in Calgary like I find in the US.

Zomato is much much better than urbanspoon. It has community managers who actually live in the cities they manage. It has SOCIAL FEATURES that US never had and that Yelp doesn't approach like conversation-style commenting so you actually can disagree with a review (or extol it or whatever). Finally for me what's great is that it's owned by an Indian company, and since Windows Phone is huge in India, I get a well-supported app for my Lumia 830.

La Taqueria has replaced Smoke's Poutinerie in MacHall on the University campus. Very nice step up, as I quite enjoyed the Beef and Chicken tacos and the loaded fries. Going to need to go back and try the Oreo churro.

Well holy crap, I just checked and low and behold they do have an app for BB10 so I can actually try it on my phone now. I was having to use the internet before so maybe that is why I disliked it.

Edit
I may have spoke too soon. Just tried the app and it cannot even find my location so it's pretty much useless. Maybe just a technical glitch, will try again later.

Noticed that the former Mission Diner on 4th now has a small (like 8.5x11) sign in the window saying "Something Cheesy Coming Soon".

Big Cheese? Or another poutine shop?

I use Zomato and I like the social aspect of it. It takes a while to get used to it but I dig their 'Collections' section for each city.
