The show has certainly many qualities. For a German series. I was even part of some shots, as an extra, in scenes like this ....

It was a newly designed set, especially for Babylon Berlin in order to recreate an old Berlin districts.

But, quite honestly, I found the storyline a little bit to confusing.

How Berlin became the capital of cool
The Times

Quote:
But Berlin’s status has not been cemented overnight. It has an astonishing cultural history, which takes in everything from the Bauhaus school of art to Iggy Pop and David Bowie, both of whom called the city home in the 1970s. It a centre of modern art and film. It has a thriving food scene. And it is home to people from all over the world. The city has long drawn young creatives who are attracted by the reasonable cost of living – but it is now drawing families, too.

Nothing much new, though.

This night clubbing scene and culture based on DJs specialized in electronic music started off from the mid 1980's in the US Midwest, namely Chicago and Detroit, then conquered NYC, SF, some bit of LA, and above all entire Western Europe!
There were some legendary electronic clubbing scenes all over Paris and London back in the 1990's yet.

It sounds like Berlin, some Spain and Italy are still trying to capitalize on it, but we're trying to move on over here.

It's old... As Hip Hop culture is old as well.

I think more and more artists are developing some sounds mixing acoustics and electronics these days.

I recently got this book. It's Weimar Berlin that fascinates me, not recent Berlin--I'm not interested in modern hipsters. The book comes with a great CD of cabaret music of the period.

Yes and No. Some crucial Berlin factors such as affordable rents, lots of artists and musicians and a young bohemian hipster atmosphere are very much alive and valid.

On the other hand: The time for super cheap flats and easy available rooms are over. Berlin is in high demand by workers, international students and real estate sharks. The city does not built enough commercial and living space. Berlin has also become a start up city with lots of investments in new businesses.

One result of this openness is that German society is now more diverse and inclusive, especially Berlin. The capital and other urban centers are ranked among the best cities in the world in terms of the quality of life. Almost half the area of Berlin, for example, is composed of parks, forests, rivers and lakes.

Pretty good one.
