I had no idea the rest of the country didn't have Chevrons. We didn't have Tim Horton's until relatively recently either. I definitely feel more culturally close to California than eastern Canada, although that may be because my dad/half my family is Californian and I watch too much American tv.

Isn't Safeway also a California company that only ever made a Canadian expansion into Western Canada? Are there Safeways out East?

Safeway made it as far east as Thunder Bay, and has been in Canada since 1929.

I filled up for 14.67 on Wednesday. And by filled up I mean topped up since in the two weeks since I previously filled up I didn't drive very much. I've used more than that in the past two days so I guess I'll go put another $18 in.

Most of the city is at 85.7 to 87.9, Superstore is 84.9. The cheapest on the reserve is 72.0.

Filled up for 56.9 at Safeway in Edmonton and saved another ten cents on top of that because I got suckered into buying $125 worth of groceries and they gave me a coupon.

You guys are two cents cheaper than we are. I can't remember the last time that Timmins had cheaper gas than us.

The history of how Standard Oil turned into present day Chevron, BP, and Exxon is pretty fascinating.

Fun fact, every state that Chevron holds the rights to the Standard Oil name, they have 1 gas station that still displays the old Standard logo. Here's Washington State's Standard station in Bellevue

In St. Catharines, Esso and Pioneer are engaged in a price-war so the gas can currently be had at 64.9 cents/litre. last time I checked ontariogasprices.com it was the cheapest in Ontario

I can confirm this is correct - filled up @64.9 yesterday at Pioneer. The Esso and Pioneer stations' price wars are definitely creating some traffic issues on Ontario St. as you come off the QEW.

Is this sort of thing normal/common in the world of gas pricing in Ontario? It was 91.9 in Burlington/Oakville/Milton yesterday as well....

I go to the "less busy" Shell on Ontario St. It's worth the extra 3-5 cents to save 20 minutes of your life to fill up.

I'm not sure how long the gas war has been going on but they I first noticed it in the past couple of months in Welland (Pioneer vs. Esso).

My anecdotal evidence (coming from long-time operator of former independent station now franchised as Esso brand) is that Pioneer (the instigator) comes out the loser though because the Esso stations that are equaling their low price are corporate owned (they can take a loss for a while and it won't matter much) whereas eventually Pioneer will be forced to raise prices dramatically.
I wonder if people remain loyal to one brand or another when gas prices "normalize"?
