They are no parking signs for snow removal crews to do their stuff. If car owners leave their vehicles when the machinery comes by, a tow truck takes them away to another street or city pound in some cases. The tow trucks usually pass an hour before snow removal and blare their sirens so folks can hear inside their houses.
The snow is a pain when the crews come back over 5 days or more to manicure the streets. Often times they take care of most of the snowfall in truckloads transported to designated sites. The week following this, graders and snowblowers keep clearing leftover snow onto properties past the sidewalks and small machinery clears the sidewalks. The cold in Montreal these days is a lot worse than the snow though, yesterday we had a low of -17˚F.
This is a municipal snow depot where truckloads are dumped. In march when it's piled up high, you can see huge backhoes and graders leveling the mountain and maintaining the snow roads up to the highest points. It's not unusual to see mounds of blackened snow leftover in midmay.
