I'm pretty sure it's in early site prep stages, if anything. That's what Scruffy said has been happening there in July, and there hasn't been enough time for them to do anything serious since then. I asked him if we should go check it out and he said it's not worth the bother.

All the work being done at the site right now is for the 7 train extension. They haven't begun excavating for the tower foundations yet

talked to workers yesterday. Still only working on the subway. Afterwards they will start to dig the foundations for the tower. I don't know when that will start

That 7 line extension is critical to development in the area, so here's the update from the MTA...

This tower depends so much on the 7 Line extension. Could be at least several years before the Girasole itself begins construction.

Could be, but for other reasons. The station itself doesn't have to be completed before work begins on the tower - if its built in current form at all. My only problem with the 7 line extension is that they were supposed to build a station below Related's 42nd Street tower (now under construction) and everyone backed away from that. I think they even backed away from a compromised plan, in which they were just going to build the "shell", and complete the station later.

Rendering looks nice--solid tower. If executed well this could end up being quite elegant.

Could be nice, but I always forget this is a mixed-use tower. Still, hoping we get a chance for a nicer design. This tower is very similar to the WPC in that both towers will have direct connections to the new 34th St subway station (the extended 7 line). Some earlier planning before construction began...

Wow, that is alot more complicated than I thought it would be. It's amazing how much manpower and machines are required to make a subway.

And this is in the 21st century, imagine when the subway was first built in 1907.

Exciting updates. The groundworks are especially amazing considering they're digging those caverns right under Midtown Manhattan's greater area.
