The subject of this week's nationwide warrant was arrested last night after a 45 minute stand-off in the house behind the one where the homicide occurred. The street was evacuated as a precaution. I can't recall this happening with a stand-off before, usually they put the street on lock-down.

Well, the guy is certainly dead, but that gets back to what we count in this forum. Police killings that don't result in charges are apparently not counted. Do we include other cases of justifiable homicide (if that's what it is)?

Quite the week here in Thunder Bay:

March 26th, apparently not suspicious though the scene was held for three days and the autopsy was performed in Toronto. The name of the deceased was withheld at the family's request, which has led to speculation that it's drug related.

April 1st, police are called to a disturbance at a downtown social housing block in the morning. Somehow, one of the people involved falls off a balcony and dies. Ontario's special investigations unit (which investigates situations where a person dies in the presence of police) is investigating.

April 3rd, public release from local EMS: opioids "like fentanyl or carfentanyl" have been detected in local cocaine supply.

April 3rd, #1: A man is found dead in a home in a middle class neighbourhood. It's considered suspicious. No other information has been released, police continue to hold the scene.

April 3rd, #2: A body has been found along a walking trail on the university campus. Police are holding the scene. No additional details at this time.

In addition to all of these, there has been a string of arsons on the opposite end of town.

Waterloo Region had its first homicide of the year today, a 22 year old man stabbed by another 22 year old man.

The Region of Waterloo had 5 homicides in 2017.

Zero for Lévis. 1 for greater Québec City area.

There were very unusual things about the stroller (read ''in the stroller'') and it made the lady call 911...luckily.

Nothing new though, there are always unusual things on crime scenes

The owner of a local Edmonton flower company has died after being severely beaten by a young male who was attempting to rob a kiosk in Southgate Mall. Very tragic, I only met Lain a few times but he was an incredibly nice guy. This is Edmonton’s 8th this year

Another stark cultural difference between the U.S. and Canada: when you watch the footage of the arrest, you realize that the perpetrator would have been shot to death right away south of the border.

I disagree. Maybe that's how the Toronto police force operates. If that had happened in Calgary or Edmonton he very likely would have been shot. In Calgary I'd say the odds of him being shot would have been 99.99% based on his refusal to follow orders.
