The building should be slightly below the top of the crane.

It might be topped out. I'm not sure. It's either on the 22nd or 23rd floor.

I guess it must be since there's a tree up there. They still have to do the barrel roof, though.

Does anyone besides me think that Austin is overdoing it with the high rises? I know demand is not that high. Does Austin even have enough people to occupy them?

Your post makes no sense. The demand for downtown apartments is obviously there based on demand and occupancy rates. Since this is your first post I'm just assuming you're a troll or very ignorant.

Agreed, that seems like a pretty asanine question to be asking on a skyscraper forum. Not sure sure if you live In Austin or not but if you do you must be pretty oblivious to what is going on here or you might be a NIMBY who doesn't like tall buildings.

To answer you're question yes there is high demand for these types of projects. No Austin is not overdoing it. Yes Austin has enough people to fill them. Its not like we are some backwoods town. This is the 11th largest city in the United states and is the fastest growing economicly and fastest population growth in percentage.

Developers wouldn't build something expecting it to sit empty. So, yes, there is demand. These guys don't throw away money to make our skyline look pretty.

I'm 100% sure that this is why Dallas has high vacancy rates (right now there vacancy has dropped which is a good thing) even though they have super high demands for apartments which in Dallas the occupancy rate of apartments are at 94% and one would expect Developers to construct expensive High rise apartments but they already know what can happen if they do, so I'm just going to watch what happens to Austin (I wouldn't call asking about demand for the skyscrapers a crazy question, who knows maybe the buildings will fill up to 100% and then more skyscrapers will be built OR maybe the Skyscrapers will have large vacancy rates, and NO IM NOT FROM Austin (That should be obvious, but I'm positive not all of the skyscrapers will get filled)

I would need to find the article, but there was an article where an analyst was discussing that the current boom would have to keep pace for the next few years to make a dent in the current residential demand. You have to keep in mind that while they are going crazy building apartments hopefully bringing occupancy rates to something more sane, there are no condos being built. The available condos in town are rapidly dwindling and I believe the ABJ article I read showed that the would be practically gone in less than 2 years. If that is the case, even new condo projects started now wouldn't come online in time.

With the Fairmont looking to start construction, you can make some arguments about whether Austin is overbuilding it's hotel supply and I don't see any new office building starting besides the current 2 under construction and maybe Whole Food's new HQ. Apartments and Condos though, this pace probably won't slow down for quite a while. There is too little supply, too much demand, and too many people moving here for that to change in the near future.

One of the things I do on my bike rides for photos is listen to people at the parks. Just the other day I overheard two different separate individuals who had moved here from out of state. Both had only been here a year. I hear that almost every time I go downtown and visit the parks. Go up to the Doug Sahm Hill in Butler Park and you'll hear people who moved here from just about everywhere. And all the things they say are positive, such as that they love it, there's lots of cheap or free fun stuff to do. Lots of events, etc. I am not just bragging here. I feel funny sometimes hearing people's reaction to Austin. Sometimes I feel like a townie in a tourist town, except the people coming here don't leave.
