Yikes - ice fog! Nice video showing the dangers. I'd definitely need to consume a couple beers to have the guts to navigate those icy sidewalks.

I'm enjoying your ongoing tour of St. Johns.

Thanks, Driver.

*****

Last night we went to the Rockhouse, one of the more popular live music venues on George Street.

We went to see Ben Caplan, who is quite popular in St. John's, in turns out. He's from Hamilton but based in Halifax. He performed with a local violinist, a bass guitarist from Halifax, and a drummer from Ottawa.

The crowd loved him:

Video Link

And he loved it here so much that he added an unscheduled third performance to his tour. Tonight at The Ship (the go-to pub for names big and small in town) - and Joanna Barker is opening for him. I love her.

Anyhow, a few pictures of our walk down and along George Street.

Taking McMurdo's Lane down from Duckworth to Water.

Christian's (left) is one of the oldest bars in St. John's. And it provides the city's best Screech In, by far.

We stopped into Bridie Molloy's for a few pints before heading to the concert at The Rockhouse.

Although they had a live band and cover, they were kind enough not charge us as we were only staying for a short time.

The Rockhouse was directly across the street. The third floor on this side of the building is the ground floor on the backside; the hill right here is especially steep.

To make that point again. The floor I'm standing on to take this picture has a ground-floor entrance on the back of the building.

The man of the hour. Local band Green & Gold opened for him. Awesome stuff.

Some of the bars along George Street are very small. This actually has a popular dance floor.

It was cold and early (concert started at 10) so George Street wasn't as busy as usual.

It picked up a bit later on.

Then it was time to wrap up the night with a burger and fries at Talamh an Éisc/Celtic Hearth.

Where the menus have no editors.

And this evening I had to run to the airport to pick up a couple of friends returning from away south. Snapped a few pics of the place.

Might have to revise this is oil stays down:

And a feed of Mary Brown's (Newfoundland's equivalent of KFC) to end the day.

A couple of red light pics of the weather getting worse today. And a little map with a red arrow showing where I am and which I'm facing.

Lunch time, Elizabeth Avenue:

End of day, Rawlin's Cross:

Ordered fries, dressing, and gravy from Ches' down the block. Went out and had to dig out... AND help the neighbours get a cabbie on his way. FFS, council workers are ignoring our street.

But we got him out!

Amazing pictures of the blizzard and the day after. Impressive snowfall and beautiful images. Thanks once more for sharing. I like the colours you get with your new camera, very intense and bright.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Thanks, Danny.

My poor, little lower class neighbourhood is chugging along.

The number of homes being renovated to exhibit some of the ornamental wood featured in more middle class neighbourhoods is increasing quickly. But a lot are doing it with vinyl, , which just seems so bizarre:

And the old Mary Browns across from Planned Parenthood, which is basically the entrance to Rabbittown, is now a little row of cheap townhomes.

Before:

Now:

But there's a romance to lower class St. John's life...

And, please just let me know if you want me to remove these as they're basically Google Map images, but from Bing. But I just wanted to share a view from above with a few screenshots:

I don't know how you guys made it on that icy sidewalk. If you had been walking on water it would have been less impressive.

Nice pics!

Awesome pics! I've lived in St. John's most of my life and feel far too indifferent to it but your pictures capture the city better than any I've seen. Bring on summer though

I don't think we'll have a summer this year. It's actually getting colder.

Average high in January was +0.4C (32.7F), in February it was -0.7C (30.7F), and so far in March it's -1.1C (30). We also had our first and only day of winter that never got above -10C (14F) the other day. Boo!

*****

And thanks guys!
