The problem really isn't with Gehry, it's with Related. They are the ones who decide on the project's size and are in charge of obtaining funding. He just designs what they want.

Coming from the station, walk 2 feet to the right and its a straight B line to the Broad plaza/courtyard based off of one of the renderings on urbanize... But i get what people are saying.... But damned if you do...Damned if you don't....

If it were a straight path outlined with trees,"boring". If it was a straight path with an overhead arch, "old, simple". If it were a straight path with just lighting, shrubbery and some Broad-esque statues, "Gimmicky". If it were just your typical concrete bridge, "LA never tries hard enough". Call in Gehry, "LA is overworking the design again"... Its true when they say you cant make everybody happy.

How about we focus on the bigger problem which is the fact that its a pedestrian bridge??? a few tens of millions to raise the station 3-4 floors, make a pedestrian bridge and to "Make it Pretty" for the Broad. Something a simple street cross walk and stairs/wheelchair ramp/elevator could have sufficed with next to the Broad garage/plaza.

That section of Downtown is already "Pedestrian bridge city" and an urban/walkability dead zone, I thought we were over that? or are we making exceptions ?

I'm a bit late to the conversation (out of town for work). But I hope this is legit. I've been asking about this one for months and nobody was ever able to give me a clear answer, "its on hold, its canceled, its been revived". That's exactly what I thought.
It's just ridicules. How can anybody be okay with something like that?
Plus a design like that. It's like somebody is slapping the pedestrian right in the face.

"Wilshire Grand looks so great from here"...but notice how much taller U.S. Bank/Library Tower looks. The thin spire on Wilshire Grand hardly shows. Aon almost matches it in height, except for the spire. 854' vs. 900' ex crown & spire. Not much difference. Library tower roof is over 1000'. So (ex spire), it really does look taller than Wilshire Grand from most places at a distance. But don't get me wrong, I do like Wilshire Grand. A fine addition to the skyline.

The drone photo is pretty wide and doesn't really showcase the skyline at all. It does look nice from the Fashion District though:



You can also see the spire from LAX which is pretty impressive. Even with the potato quality photo.

Well now this contradicts what we were saying before about a pre-NII boom. I wish people would stop messing with the market. This could artificially mess with the cycle.
