This made me laugh. I was on travel for 15 days and my favorite part about coming home was seeing Salesforce Tower pop up out of nowhere in the skyline.

^^^^ This picture clearly shows that the Salesforce tower is not going to be a mere clone. Because a tower has a similar shape as another doesn't mean it's an unimportant knockoff. How many skyscrapers are really true originals. Transamerica Pyramid maybe one off but these are rare.

I agree--there are significant differences between the two, more like distant cousins. Gran Torre is also not quite as tall as Salesforce Tower in any of its dimensions. It does have a two floor observation deck!
Most architects - just like most artists - tend to take inspiration from other things they have seen. It should then be no surprise that some buildings tend to look like others. I don't think this takes away from any building at all though.
One Liberty Place in Philadelphia - a very iconic building - took inspiration from the Chrysler Building.

Exactly--look at how the Romans copied ancient Greece time and time again. Washington, D.C. has many buildings and monuments that were inspired by ancient Rome. The pattern has continued since the dawn of humanity.

I've never been to the west coast, so I don't know the difference in air quality (I've heard it's pretty bad in LA, so I have no clue how you folks breathe).
Here on the east coast, it's not bad.
There is a very smelly factory in North Jersey that pollutes the air so bad, I have to shut the windows as I travel to NYC.
But the tower is looking very nice.
It's refreshing to know that it doesn't need a spire to reach the sky.

Sometimes I feel glad that I can't smell. Driving through North Jersey and all the industries in Delaware mean nothing to me.

Back on topic, I can see how people would say that this is a rip-off of the Gran Torre, but architecture evolves and has trends. Glass, as we all know, is very popular in construction right now, and curved structures are also somewhat popular with current skyscrapers. It's a trend. In 50 years it could be something completely different.
