CTV and Canadian News in General- suck

I'm so tired of CTV always having opionated news, and always trying to stir stuff up. Who else agrees the news agencies in this country is ridiculous. They ran a story today on my aunt on CTV BC, and it was just a bunch of lies spewed out.

Was your aunt that lady who claimed she could cure cancer through alternative therapy?

Not necessarily just in this country, it's worldwide...and frankly, the Canadian news is quite tame on sensationalism and opinionated journalism compared to the Australians and especially the Brits and Americans, perhaps with an even greater emphasis on the latter loll. Just be thankful we're not at the head of the pack...it's a world trend.

With that said, I too greatly dislike our media...but I find that Canwest Global (Fox News Canada - Lite) is much more opinionated.

I would say CTV is the best of the three evils. I find CBC (Commie Broadcasting Channel) the worst, but Global is bad too. At lest we don't suffer under the BBC.

Yeah, CTV always seemed to try to be edgy and stirring up things that aren't important but they try to be.

I don't mind CBC or Global too much, don't watch them much however either

I find CBC newsworld to be ok if I want to know what's happening in the world.

But really, I use the internet, and a variety of sources, if I want to know the details on a controversial story.

Locally, TV is garbage. I like listening to CKNW or News 1130 while I work. CKNW has opinionated hosts, but at least you know what you're getting into, and you can judge appropriately. I enjoyed it when Christy Clark grilled Vanderzalm the other day. The Anti-HST supporters would do well to hear their hero speak...

Nothing, but nothing, in Canada sucks as bad as Fox "News" in the US. Hopefully that Quebecor project never gets off the ground. Canada doesn't need that.

There is no such thing as news on the National level. It's about personalities and the companies agenda.

Usually local TV is somewhat better, but they have gotten to be quite sensationalist in the last few years~

I never liked CTV, I only like watching Global for Vancouver news, I like the specials on vancouver even if theyre opinionated.

World news I just either check the internet or watch BBC.
CNN sometimes, but not that much.

I think that it just comes down to taking everything with a grain of salt and trying to strip out that opinion as best you can. No network will suffice for deep investigative journalism and absence of bias, but I prefer CBC. Global just pushed me over the edge with their HST cacophony.

And why one HAS TO read several sources of information. I mean, when did people stop doing that?

We're definitely better off than the States for sensationalist media, and waaaaay better than the British media. That said, I'm more than a little concerned about how many media outlets are owned by a small handful of companies. It got a little better with CanWest Globemedia's breakup, but it's still pretty alarming. Especially here in Vancouver, where both of our major dailies are owned by the same company (and they're both pretty terrible).
