Carlos, LOVE the updates, man!

However, that power plant you dislike on Vernon Blvd. is not nuclear and it's incredibly important to the city! Her name is "Big Allis", she burns natural gas and creates 20% of the city's electricity. So I doubt she'll be going offline anytime soon.

Also to point it out for Carlos New York City doesn't have any nuclear power plants, but however it does get part of it's energy from nuclear power from Indian Point in upstate New York. New York City gets 20% of it's electricity from there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Point_Energy_Center

^ And there has been a push to close Indian Point since 2001, which I consider folly. Nuclear power is quite clean compared to Big Allis, even though she is one of the cleanest burning power plants on the planet.

Nuclear Power is the best solution we have now. Far less people have been killed and far fewer waterways, environments destroyed.

Its to close to a major populated area , it sits near a fault line , the operators have done shaddy things in the past. Its time for it to go....they can switch to Hydro...

Dam the Hudson? How do you suggest they do that while keeping the River environment intact and creating anyway near the same amount of power?

Furthermore, compare the deaths and destruction of mining, fracking and damming to nuclear power.

I think a lot of anti-Nuclear activists would ask you which of the following two options you'd rather take: A) Giving yourself 30 paper cuts -or- B) Playing Russian Roulette with 1 bullet in the chamber.

I might be playing Devil's Advocate, btw.

We are going too far off topic. It was just an explanation to Carlos not the power battle. This is the East Coast LIC thread. Carry the argument to the engineering section.

Not to mention Greenpoint and Hallet's Point, although neither one of these seems imminent just yet.
